The all-new SM5 helmet is the result of more than five years of intensive study, development and testing. We scrutinized every possible aspect to engineer a helmet that is safe and thoughtfully designed to deliver optimal protection and comfort. This lightweight helmet features a thermo-injected shell incorporating a special polymer blend enhanced by varying degrees of thickness that is engineered to deliver the optimal combination of impact protection and light weight, while the five density EPS liner ensures the correct density in the correct area for enhanced impact absorption. Other key design features include an engineered raised area with padding to effectively reduce the forces transmitted to the collarbone and a patented visor release system that ensures the visor is released with the correct pre-determined amount of force, irrespective of the angle of impact.
Features:
Emergency release system and removable cheek pads permit the safe and easy removal of the cheek pads while the helmet is still on, while the 3D contoured foam ensures rider comfort
Removable comfort liner with Silverplus® treated anti-bacterial fabrics for excellent moisture wicking, effectively drawing perspiration away from the skin
Anti-microbial liner is removable and washable
Hydration tube channels are integrated into the helmet's cheek pads for convenience and performance
Soft textile chin strap is 26mm and is wider than certification requirements for optimal safety and rider comfort
Construction:
Lightweight outer shell is constructed from a technologically advanced impact resistant thermoplastic in two sizes
The inner and outer surfaces are engineered to minimize the effects of oblique impacts
Multiple density inner liner to ensure the correct density in the correct area for enhanced impact absorption
Patented visor release system ensures the visor is released with the correct pre-determined amount of force, irrespective of the angle of impact
Maximized ventilation and high levels of heat transfer exchange thanks to multi-air inlets and exhaust ports
The visor has been designed to direct air into the ports for enhanced airflow
Protection:
Stainless steel D-rings to ensure a tight and secure fit
ECE certified

Awesome Helmet, size up.My measurements are at the top end of the small range so I Bought the small. when I got it there was no doubt it was way too small. Sent it back, sized up to a medium and I can say this is one of the best helmets I’ve owned. It’s very light.

Life SaverBough this for 7 yr old and right out of the box it was great. He uses 100% adult goggles with no issues. He loves how cool the helmet is as he sweats a lot. He recently had a huge crash that resulted in a trip to the hospital and the Dr inspected the helmet and was very impressed with protection it offered him. Even though he had bruised a kidney and numerous hematomas he had no concussion. The next day we ordered a new identical replacement. We will continue with Alpinestar helmets as it has proven itself .

NOT DOTso, I love the fit, the look, the weight. not very sure about all day use yet.
the one thing that was driving me crazy is there is no DOT sticker, even knowing the description states that its both DOT and ECE approved. I was about to return it because I will be riding to the trails and I want a street legal helmet. Decided to contact alpinestars to clarify. turns out there is 2 versions of this helmet. an american version and a european version. as Canada now accepts ECE, we are only getting the ECE version and that does not have the sticker on the back. (the ece certification is on the chin strap )
In short, I like everything about this helmet, but I wish it was clear in the description that it is not DOT.

Love it.Great buy. Size chart was accurate. Ventilation is great for being the entry level alpinestars helmet. Super lightweight compared to my old helmet. Using it for my Africa twin when riding heavier off-road scenarios and it keeps my head cool even when I’m buried in the sand with a 500 pound machine.

Wayyy too smallOrdered the sm5 medium, i usually wear that size with hjc, shoei, shark, Mt.... But that alpinestars felt like a kid helmet !!! Was ultra hard to put on, and taking it off was super painfull !!! I recommand 2 sizes up.
For the helmet : super light, well crafted, look is crazy !! In love.

So far so good, super lightweightLike it so far, a little snug on the cheeks of my round head but it's not really noticeable while riding. Would highly recommend trying helmets on. I found I fit a M8 XL but had a better fit with a L in the M5s.

Poor quality linerThe liner started to fall apart after about a year. I was unable to get anywhere with customer service at Alpinestars, so can’t even buy replacement parts. This will be the last helmet that I buy from Alpinestars.
Most MX Helmets are designed to allow for the use of a Neck Brace. As long as the helmet and neck brace are properly sized (NOT oversized) there should be no issue using both while riding.
