AltRider Upper and Lower Crash Bar Kit - R130-2-1002

A large ADV with advanced electronics such as the R1300 GS bike requires a robust crash bar system for effective protection. AltRider offers the only stainless steel 1.25" (31.75 mm) crash bar system on the market. The larger 1.25" bars are over twice as strong as 1" bars while only adding 10% more weight.

The crash bars have four secure mounting points on both sides with 3/16" (4.76 mm) thick flanges. The top rear mount is secured large custom machined M14 grade 8.8 bolt that replaces the engine mounting hardware. AltRider offers the only custom machined through-bolt for increased strength. There are no plastic spacers or bumpers to break upon impact. This creates an incredibly strong connection while maintaining a narrow design that distributes any impact evenly throughout the bars. Additionally they also make a solid foundation for upper crash bars.

The decision to increase the diameter came from nearly 15 years of research and production results. The West Coast BMW Off-Road Training School has been outfitting their bikes with AltRider gear through multiple generations of the GS series. With a bike as heavy as the R1300 GS 1" bars (25.4 mm) allow a significant amount of flex during a crash creating the need to space them farther from the bike and an increased likelihood of significant damage.

Other bars are fabricated by crimping then welding joints creating a forced fit with a weak bond. A significant portion of a crash bar's strength lies in the circle when bars are crimped this strength is lost. Additionally gaps are created which are later filled with weld. The additional heat causes warpage and all-too-common installation difficulties. All AltRider joints are 5-axis laser cut creating a perfect union before the bars are hand TIG welded in a jig. This process creates a precision fit easy installation and superior strength. Using only the best manufacturing techniques means all AltRider motorcycle accessories are of the highest quality ensuring the best protection for your adventure bike.

To ensure the rider has ample room for their shin AltRider made the rear upper mount in-line with the boxer engine.

Available in a bead-blasted stainless silver or black powder coat finish they're extremely resistant to rust whether you're riding the liquid cooled GS across the highway or across a river.

Installation is simple and straightforward. All necessary hardware is provided with the bars including finish washers that give a more polished look. The cylinder head covers can be removed to service the valves without removing the crash bars.
