Rated 4 out of 5 by from Switched from TKC80 to TKC70 I've been running TKC80s on my R1150GS for a few years now. However, I've accepted the fact that I'm not doing as much 50/50 riding as I used to. Also, the last ride was a 4 day, 4000km trip. That's a lot of time on asphalt with knobbies - as good as the TKC80s are. After looking into the plethora of offerings for large dual sport bikes I decided to try the Continental TKC70s. They seems to represent what I was looking for: quality construction, new compounds, good road manners and some dirt road features. I had them mounted by Flying Squirrel in Toronto a few days before my 2500KM ride from Toronto through Northern Ontario and back. Here are my non-professional observations: The first day they were a bit scary. This could be due to being used to the TKC80s and their tank-tread-like handling. Also, being new I was gently scrubbing them in. However, they seemed to float on the road and turn-in seemed faster than expected. That night I decided to adjust the tire pressure down. At the beginning of the trip I sent the front/rear at 36/40-42 per the manual for a larger rider plus full luggage. That night I dropped the front to about 33 and the rear to 40. The next day the tires behaved wonderfully. Was it the air? Was it me getting used to the tire characteristics? I don't know. The rest of the trip was great. When we approached the 70km dirt logging road known as the Sultan Industrial Road I aired down to about 26/32. The road was mostly hard pack dirt with varying depths of gravel. The tires behaved well from both a sitting and standing position. I did not measure the depth of the treads upon return but I could not see visible signs of wear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great option for large dual sport I purchased the TKC70s because I found myself riding on the blacktop more than on gravel roads and trails. I feel the TKC80s are a little to aggressive on the blacktop. The 70s are much better on ashphalt and still perform well on logging roads and easy trails. Unless you are going hardcore off-road the 70s may be worth a try.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Street/light off road tire Good performance on pavement and also good on not serious gravel/dirt. My friend also bought this same tire and he ended up riding unexpectedly in rain soaked gravel/dirt road. He slid a few feet and told me this is not mud friendly. I do not think this is a tire to go anywhere, even though some "testers" in the magazines claim that this tire can go anywhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent grip I have just put new TKC-70's on my Honda Varadero and so far I like them. They have excellent grip on dry pavement ...more so than the Tourance I have been using... Have not yet taken them into the dirt, though I think they will be just fine for the forest roads I would take them on. ..and cannot comment on wet riding with them as yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tyre for street and moderate off road I purchased a front and a rear tyre for light off road/gravel and street riding and this fit the bill perfectly. Probably not the best for muddy or more extreme conditions for that I would choose the TKC 80

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tires Just put these on a little over a month ago and have put nearly 4000km on them. Smooth ride, have ridden in the rain, on gravel and packed dirt without issue. Slight change in feeling when you get over onto the side in a lean, but nothing to complain about. Happy with them so far.

          Questions

Is this a radial? I want to get the TKC 70 Rocks rear tire 150/710R 18 rear that you are not showing stock of currently. I want the front and rear to be radials not mix bias with radials

          Asked by: Erick
Depends on the size. Radial tires will have a "R" before the rim size, and bias ply will have a "b" or a "-" before the rim size.

Is this tire V rated in size 110/80R19?. I ride a 2014 V-Strom DL1000 and the spec calls for a V rated tire but the description in unclear here on the website when I select the size that I want in the drop-down order menu.

any problems running radial rear tire with bias ply front (TKC 70)

          Asked by: Peter
That is a hard question to answer. I've used all combos and feel some were less than ideal. Are you thinking tkc 70 on the rear and a knoby on a he front? Here is a thread. You may not have seen. http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/mixing-radial-and-bias-ply-ok.514257/
