Dainese D-Air Smart Jacket Item # 677316
Description
The same D-air® airbag technology used in MotoGP™, now available for everyone. The Smart Jacket offers the protection of the most advanced Dainese D-air® airbag technology used in MotoGP™, in a versatile vest that fits any rider. It can be worn over or under any other jacket or outfit and it requires no connection with the motorcycle. Plus, it is well-ventilated and easily foldable. It combines all the power of the latest-generation Dainese D-air® and the convenience of a garment with a thousand uses.
How it works:
- The brain inside the Smart Jacket is the control unit in the Dainese D-air® system, which, without any cable or connection to the motorcycle, automatically senses dangerous situations and immediately activates the Shield to protect the rider
- The D-air® airbag system protects the rider's back and vital parts with its Shield, the patented airbag with microfilaments that ensures high shock absorption capacity without the need for hardshell protective gear
- Contains the latest generation Dainese D-air® technology, the airbag used by MotoGP™ champions developed in over 25 years of research on the road and track
Features:
- Fits any outfit, can be worn over or under any other jacket, and is perfect for every motorcycle and all types of riders
- Seven sensors to monitor and process data 1,000 times a second
- Offers perfect ventilation for warmer days
- Its advanced technology can withstand any downpour or weather conditions
- Can easily be folded and stored in a bag, top box, or backpack
- More than 26 hours of protection without recharging thanks to the long-lasting battery
- For the first time with a motorcycle airbag system, activation also occurs if the rider's vehicle is stationary
- Works without the need for a tether or connection to the motorcycle
- The amount of protection is equivalent to seven back protectors and it covers a wider surface than a single back protector, without the restrictions
- The Smart Jacket is abrasion-resistant and its Dainese D-air® is the only certified motorcycle airbag protection that doesn't use hardshell protection on the torso (EN 1621-4 Lev. 2) or back (EN 1621-4 CB Lev. 1)

Cost of deployment
Vest must be sent back to have airbag replaced - Over $250 USD to do this. Helite or HitAir approx. $30 replacement cylinder which if you have one can be done at side of road and repack in 5 minutes. No loss of protection for 6 weeks while being rebuilt.

Deployed, but can't get replaced
I bought this at the beginning of the season and it deployed with a minor collision in September. Bike made contact with car at low speed, but I did not make contact with any objects/ground/vehicle. In any case, I didn't care that it deployed, I just wanted to get it fixed.
Cannot find a place anywhere to fix. Bought a replacement online, but have to reset the code for the vest to recognize it. The company (based in Whitby) told me to reach out to Dainese to reset the code. Dainese referred me back to the company who eventually just gave me a refund. I was referred to another company who services these vest in Mississauga, but the company said they only serviced vests purchased directly from their company. I reached out to Dainese again and it has been two weeks with no response.
It has been almost two months and I have been riding without the vest because I can't get it fixed. For this reason, I'm giving it three stars - works when it works, but once it's deployed, I have been out of luck finding any company to fix it in Ontario. Will keep looking, but wish I knew how hard it is to replace upfront so I could have purchased another vest that was easier to repair.

Pease of mind
This is my first air bag jacket so i cannot compare if its the best. What i can say. It works as described. I like the peace of mind of not having to link the jacket to the motorcycle. It just easily arms by itself. Makes it easy to stay secure when switching bikes with fellow riders.
It does not build up heat, but it is still a vest, so, blocked in traffic could be bother some when above 28 °C. I have two motorcycle jackets and two motorcycles and this air bag vest can easily be worn over or under your jacket, what ever conforts you best. When it is over it does look the part with jacket.
I hope i'll never have to experience the blow but i just can't imagine riding without it for my security.

Poor Quality
I’ve had the Dainese D-Air Smart Jacket for just two months, and I’m already dealing with two serious issues: the stitching around the collar has started coming undone, and more critically, the device is signaling an error code and will not arm—rendering the jacket useless as a safety device.
When I contacted FortNine to initiate a warranty claim, they informed me that Dainese requires the jacket to be shipped back for inspection before taking any further action. I provided clear photos of the stitching issue, which should have been enough to warrant a replacement, especially considering the jacket’s high cost and its importance for rider safety.
While I understand that protocol may exist for electronic inspections, the fact that I have to send the jacket away for an undetermined amount of time—during our already short Canadian riding season—is frustrating and disappointing. At a minimum, a temporary replacement should be offered while the claim is reviewed.
At this price point, and with the D-Air’s marketed emphasis on rider protection, I expected much better build quality and customer support. Unfortunately, I’m left without a functional safety jacket, wasting valuable riding time.

Works great
Worn it for a couple thousand KM’s now, it works well. Fits nicely over a flannel shirt in hot weather or under my leather jacket in colder weather. Certainly a lot more comfortable than wearing back and chest protectors but equal piece of mind.

Meilleur achat

Questions
so you toss it after one use or do you send it back to somewhere to get recharged?
A new airbag insert needs to be purchased from an authorized D-air® store if triggered.

Is this vest a one time use? How large is the vest made?
I was surprised to find that the medium vest, which I initially bought for my wife, fits me very well. I'm 42 regular, 5"10", 190 lbs, if that helps anyone.
