Can't say enough about this jacketThis review is for the updated version available in 2017
I've put about 2000kms on this jacket so far this season, and it's faced 8 degrees and rain, 12 degrees and hail, stuck in traffic in a downpour, and 25 degrees and sun. It has been amazing so far. In one situation the waterproofing actually outlasted my pullover PVC backed rain pants.
In the heat it does seem to stay cool. I haven't had to deal with 30+ temperatures yet, but let's face it - nothing with any abrasion resistance and armour does very well in that situation. It could probably do with a bit more ventilation on the front, maybe under the bicep, but
The armour feels solid, but is flexible and comfortable. They sit in the right place and don't shift around like they do with other jackets.
The jacket has probably too many pockets, as I kept forgetting where I put the key. That's not a complaint!
The hood in the collar is a great addition. I love that only the back part is waterproofed, leaving the rest a light mesh that breathes well.
My only complaints would be 1) It's a bit heavy after a while. It's not as heavy as a leather, but that 3DO armour is not quite as light as other types.
I am 5 foot 7 and 150lbs and the small fits perfectly.
I've worn a lot of different jackets - leather, textile, mesh, and a few different brands. This is by far the best. I bought it at full price and don't regret it. The new price is a steal.

Lots for features for the moneyPurchased both pants and jacket, quality construction, sizing true to chart. Would like a little more adjustment in the jacket to tighten it up when don't need as many layers underneath. I'm 6 2 and arm length in the regular fits perfectly. Not sure who would need the tall version. This jacket offers a lot for the money. Dayglo is bright and looks sharp. Recommended

Great JacketI purchased this jacket in early June and promptly left on a 5000km trip. We rode in temperatures ranging from 2C (36F) to 37C (99F) as well as high winds and rain. The jacket size (which is true to the sizing chart) allowed me to wear a light down liner and a heated vest on the cool days and cinch it up with the side straps with less clothing on the hot days. The venting worked well however I'm not sure I could be comfortable in any jacket at 37C. As far as keeping the rain out the jacket was flawless. I did try the hood under my helmet but found it seemed to collect the cool air and funnel it down my back so quit using it. The jacket does not have a zipper to attach to pants however I didn't miss it. The D30 armour is thinner then the armour on my previous jacket so is hardly noticeable when wearing the jacket which is nice.
Lots of good pockets.
My only concern is the material on the outside of jacket, I am not sure how durable it will be so only time will tell.
Shipping was quick and to the front door.

Great jacketBought this last month. Used it in the mountains of BC through cold, heat, sun and rain. Vents well and buttons up for protection from the elements. Full armour is reassuring.

Best I've foundI've only had the jacket for one year but feel that is enough to offer a review. As for longevity...time will tell. The cut is 'American' which is perfect for me. I am just over 6'4" and the arm and torso length is perfect without needing a 'tall' size. The cinch straps on the waist and arms work well to bring in the looser parts. I'm not sure that I would call it a negative but the cut is quite generous and although my shoulders and arms are big, I find that I have to cinch the straps near their max to bring the material in around my arms and middle. Lots of pockets and the two middle pockets are surprisingly deep. Very happy with the included D30 armour, I may swap out for level 2 down the road but this will do for now. I can feel some perspiration behind the back armor in the summer but that is par for the course when having a large piece of plastic against you. Over the summer season I found the jacket to be quite warm even with all of the vents open. the air flow is minimal in my opinion. But, I've found this jacket really exceeded my expectations in the fall and winter months. I am fine with using my own base layers rather than a liner, in fact I prefer it. The jacket is actually quite warm with all of the vents shut and even near zero I have only needed to add a thin fleece underneath. The refelctivity isn't great so I wear a reflective vest over the jacket if riding on rainy evenings. So far it has been waterproof and the only water getting in has been around the neck (I wasn't wearing the hood). I really appreciate that the waterproofing is in the jacket rather than an added liner. The material is soft and this is a nice looking jacket and overall I am extremely pleased with this purchase.

Impressive jacketMy last adventure jacket was a Rev'it Scirocco. I rode in it for 6 months from Canada to Argentina in a variety of conditions, and was pretty happy with it. It is a typical modular jacket, with a zip in waterproof liner, and an additional thermal liner. Rev'it stuff is very well made, but I came to the following conclusions:
1. These liners require you to stop on the side of the road to zip them in, which quickly becomes an annoyance in unstable weather.
2. The liners are not really stand alone functional pieces of clothing.
2. The jacket outer shell soaks in water, makes it heavier, and under a few hours of pouring rain some leaks occur. Therefore, a rain proof outer shell is still required for longer rides.
Based on these observations, I had established the following criteria for a new adventure jacket:
1. Outer shell only with good armour. I will layer myself as required with cloting that I can actually still wear when not on the bike.
2. Excellent waterproofing. I do not want to have to use a rain jacket on top.
3. Reasonable ventilation.
There is of course the KLIM stuff that fits the bill, but I did not want to shell out 1000+ $ for a jacket. I read reviews on the Kilimanjaro 37.5 and decided to give it a try. This is one impressive jacket and a great bang for the buck:
1. The jacket is very well made. Quality of the materials and the stitching is similar to the Rev'it products that I was used to. As a side note, I had looked at the Alpinestars Drystar jacket, and the general quality impression (fabric, stitching, zippers) is inferior to Rev'it and Firstgear.
2. Armour is high quality D3O throughout. No cheap foam pads here.
3. This jacket feels very rugged. The only downside of this is that it is somehow heavy. The fabric (37.5) seems very similar to Gore Tex.
4. The waterproofing is excellent.
All in all, I'm very happy with the Kilimanjaro. I feel this is close to the KLIM products at only a fraction of the price.

Excellent JacketBought this a few months back and am super happy. Did an off road course in Southern BC where heat, cold and rain hit us on different days. I stayed as dry as others in Jackets 2 and three times the price. Great armour and venting as well.

I found this jacket to be excellent. it was very good in the rain. I also found that it was good in very hot weather with the vents open.
I just my new jacket it’s a 3x I am find it seems to fit fine around my belly fine but I feel the arms are really long. Does any one else find this. I feel like the shoulder pads and elbow pads are off to where they should be.
Asked by: Terry782
I would say that the fit of shoulder and elbow pads is most important. The cuffs on my jacket are half way down my fingers which I like because I ride a sport touring bike, this gives a lot of room to manoeuvre.

I bought a Kilimanjaro jacket used. It appears to be missing a zip in liner. Does the jacket come with a liner or do you have to purchase it separately? If separate, what liner is recommended?
Asked by: Cmack
It doesn't come with a liner. You may be referring to the zipper at the bottom to connect to pants.

Is it better to sie for chest or waist? Chest would put me in a 2x or 3x, but waist would indicate 4x (yeah, I'm the opposite of Athletic..

Go the 4x i am the same size and it works better not as tight around the mid section. When on the bike.

What size do you recommend? I am 5'10 and weigh 190lbs and have 44" chest(athletic build). Would like a snug fit after thermal layer.

Does this jacket come with an insulated liner? It doesn't say in the description.
Asked by: Mrhappy 002
No, it does not have an insulated liner; but, I wore it as a three season jacket without any issues. I simply put an extra layer on for warmth or you could go with an insulated inner jacket. I bought FirstGear's and love it.
