How to Lube a Motorcycle Chain

Best Motorcycle Chain Lube

There are loads of chain lubes on the market, but one of the best is Bel-Ray Super Clean Chain Lube . It's waterproof, contaminant-resistant, and it dries white. So it's easy to ensure that you haven't missed any spots. After all, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link!

To lube the chain, simply follow the same steps as for cleaning:

How to Lube a Motorcycle Chain

Before You Begin: Clean your chain.

Step 1: Take the bike for a quick ride to warm the chain. Then, pop it up on a stand.

Step 2: Strategically place cardboard or newspaper to minimize overspray.

Step 3: Rotate the rear wheel, so the lower chain runs AWAY from the rear sprocket (and your spraying hand). Give everything a good coating, especially the parts that come into contact with the sprocket teeth.

Step 4: Leave the lube to dry for at least 30 minutes.

While the lube is drying, you have time to clean up any mess and put away the cleaner and lube for next time.

And finally, all that’s left to do is gear up and take your baby for a ride. Feel free to look suitably smug and pleased with a job well done.

How Often to Lube a Motorcycle Chain

Everyone has an opinion on how often you should clean and lube your chain. We recommend every 500 to 700 kilometres, or every time you have ridden in the rain, or on wet pavement, or on dirt roads. Stick to it, and your chain will thank you with thousands of trouble-free clicks!
