Your spine is worth it!
Bought this to replace the foam back "protector" in my Alpinestars Viper Air. The size large D30 back protector fits perfectly in the size large jacket!
Feels a bit heavy when holding the jacket in your hand, but once you put it on, the weight disappears.
Temperature was also good on my back, ranging from rides in 30c to 5c weather.
Definitely would recommend upgrading to this back protector for all riders!

Delivers on promise
Bought this to replace the foam Vault 2 back armour in a Joe Rocket jacket. Easy to install, about the same level of bulk, more breathability

Great Purchase
I bought the Large to replace the level 1 d30 protector that came in my Klim Latitude. It bulks up the jacket a bit, but the jacket still fits perfect.

Size matters...
I bought this back protector for my Oxford Copenhagen jacket, size 42 or large.
So I ordered the Large size protector.
It is a bit too long. But I did manage to squeeze it in. Perhaps, a sizing chart could provide some guidance are assist in selecting the correct size.
Overall. I certainly will order from FORT NINE, as their service and delivery are excellent

Disappears in my jacket
Bought this to replace the standard foam padding in my jacket. It is comfortable as it conforms to the shape of my back as I transition from walking upright, through sitting and riding on my bike. Feels light and is well ventilated. I hope I never have to put it to test.

Comfortable back protector
I bought this for my Scorpion Covert Flannel Shirt. It was a perfect fit. I previously tried fitting a hard back protector in that jacket/shirt and it was too bulky. This conforms nicely to your back.
I hope I never have to test out how well it protects me.

fantastic improvement
I bought a new armored vest this summer with the standard back armor found in many jackets. The vest is a snug fit and even after short ride of 30 minutes the back of my shirt would be soaked in sweat from the trapped heat due to the foam armor. The Icon Viper has cooling ribs for ventilation so I thought I'd give it a try. It was an immediate improvement, much cooler/less sweaty, plus it's a much higher level of protection than the standard hard foam types, win/win!
I've now removed the standard back armor from my jacket as well and switch the Viper armor from vest to jacket as required. For the minimal price difference why don't manufacturers put Icon Viper as a minimum standard in all their riding gear?

Questions
What size will fit the Icon Contra jacket, M or L?
The correct size for the Icon D3O Viper 2 Back Protector is determined by torso length. The large is 44.4cm x 27.5cm, and the medium is 40.5cm x 27.5cm. Either insert would fit into your jacket, but we would recommend measuring your torso to ensure you select the right size.

What size should I get for my large merlin Yoxall jacket
Jacket manufacturers do not provide a list of compatible armor with their jackets. Therefore, we would suggest measuring the armor pocket on the jacket, to determine which armor would fit the best.

I'm interested in the Icon D3O Viper 2 Back Protector pad. The medium size one is only 40.5cm long. My jacket requires a pad 45cm long. Anyone know what the length is for the Large size?
44.4cm x 27.5cm

Will this fit in any motorcycle jacket that has the compartments for it? Or if I was getting an Alpinestar jacket would I be better off getting the same brand?
This is a universally fitting back protector, and should fit in any jacket that has a compartment for it.

i see there are two sizes offered. For the large size Firstgear Kathmandu jacket, what size back pad would be appropriate. thanks in advance.
Hello, I purchased one of these for an other type of jacket from Fort 9 and chose the large size with the idea that I could cut it to fit. I did not need to cut as it fitted well. it was a little bigger than the holder sleeve (just a tad), but it compressed just enough to fit.
I would think you should try the large like I did and if the fit is really off, just return it for the other size. F9 has a no hassle return policy.
I hope this helps.

Bought one of these and now wonder which side goes against my back, the smooth or wiggly side?
Definitely the wavy side against you back, smooth side out. That's how it is installed in Klim jackets.

This is just a little wide for the pocket in my jacket. Can it be trimmed or will that ruin its protective properties?
The weave of the material and structural integrity of the protector will be compromised if you trim it. It's not recommended by the manufacturer or Fortnine that you cut these to fit your jacket. We recommend locating one that is fitted and designed for your jacket.
