Good (For The Price)
At this price-point, I wasn't expecting much, but I also knew I would use this tool probably, at most, once every 2-3 years, so I didn't want to drop $200 on a "pro" kit. I took a chance on this one after seeing OK reviews for it elsewhere, despite the low reviews here.
I wanted to give my little XV250 more highway legs by giving it taller gearing. The chain on it was already looking rough, and I'd settled on a 17/40 sprocket ratio. That'd require a 112 link chain instead of the 114 that comes with the bike. I bought a very nice 120 link chain, and then I bought this tool to help shorten and then permanently rivet the new chain down to 112 links.
I already knew this kit would not be up to the task of breaking a full rivet on its own, so I filed down the rivets on the link I wanted to break, and use the pin-pusher to get the rivet out. It worked pretty well for that task.
I then used the two flat plates to push the permanent link into place, using calipers to measure distance every so often. The rest of my chain had a 18.0-18.2mm link width, and the tool managed to get it to that dimension easily enough.
I then used the anvil and flare tool to flare out the permanent link's rivets to 5.5mm. It that pretty easily as well.
Overall, it worked for my purposes, and made the job relatively easy. You could probably do it with manual hand tools, but this took a lot of the thinking out of it.
I don't think this set would put up with being used in a professional shop. I don't know how many chains this tool has in it but it works well enough for this hobbyist.
Keep in mind I worked on the chain while it was off the bike and on a shop bench. I can't imagine getting enough leverage while it was on the bike. I'd consider this a tool you use to fully configure a new chain to your preferred length, and then putting it on the bike afterwards.

Failed on first use
Purchased to break a DL1000 chain. No instructions, but that is what Youtube is for. Followed those, and got the pin half way out. Pin must have bound up, because the punch started to 'spiral' in the tool. I'm thinking its getting easier, so keep turning until its mess of chyna steel.
PRO TIP: when using it to break chain, use a grinder to make the chain rivet peen flush against the side of the link. That will make it easier. Or, not buy the tool, and continue using the grinder to just cut the chain off.
Going to test it for riveting a DID525 chain. Hopefully it survives.
