Suit is great, if it fits
I wanted the suit as an easy throw-on-and-go solution for all situations, so that I could wear my civi’s underneath, and simply take it off an go upon arrival at my destination. It is perfect for this.
The construction and features are amazing. Everything works as it should. Smells amazing, like all new Klim gear. There’s plenty of reviews online for these aspects, so I won’t reinvent the wheel here.
For reference, I am 6’ tall, 150lbs, with comically long arms. My Klim measurements are as follows:
Chest: 37”
Waist: 32”
Hips: 37”
Arms(Klim): 37”
Arms(AStars): 27”
Sizing was not good. There was a dearth of information about fit and sizing online. I scoured the internet for anything and came up with nothing. Consequently, I had a rely on the size chart, blackbox Klim Fit Wizard, and Klim’s sanctimonious customer service.
The Fit Wizard suggested a Medium-Tall or a Large, and assigned a meaningless binary probability distribution to them of almost equal weights signifying their prospect of fitting correctly.
In pursuit of more information, I contacted Klim, hoping they could narrow it down. They did have much interest in doing so, and didn’t even seem very familiar with the product.
Ordered both sizes.
The Large-Regular was way too big, I was swimming inside it. This size would have never properly fit my measurements, and to such a degree that it should’ve been patently obvious to both the Fit Wizard and customer service representative, and never even been suggested.
The Medium-Tall fit properly on my body, the arms and legs were long enough, but the crotch hung to my knees. Ego flattering, but entirely unnecessary, and impossible to walk in. Where the problem arises, is that being a one-piece suit, the pants are attached to the jacket, and so the upper sets where the lower begins. While, per Klim, the only difference was supposed to be a few extra inches on the arms and legs between Regular and Tall sizes, I am quite certain the torso is also longer, which translates through to the crotch.
Based on those fits and a mountain of other research, I suspect a Medium-Regular would’ve fit me well, perhaps with a modification to the waist straps since they were at their tightest and still a little bit loose, and a Small-Tall would’ve been too short on limbs and torso length.
However, by this point I’d had enough of dealing with these fitment issues, lack of information, the disparity of the Fit Wizard to the actual garment, and apathy from Klim customer service. So I gave up on the suit in favour of a separate jacket and pants.
Subsequent to this, I came across a great review that would’ve made me order a Medium-Regular with confidence right at the beginning, had I only found it sooner. UnionGarageNYC, I will include the link below. The pictures, in tandem with model’s Klim size measurements and size of garment they are wearing, are worth 1000 Klim Fit Wizards and customer service representatives. I never would’ve ordered a Large-Regular had I seen the pics in the link below and read this first:
“Gray suit model is 6'3", 42" chest. 190lbs. wearing a standard large. Scroll down for full tech specs. The black suit is worn by a not-a-model who is 6'2", 245lbs, wearing a XL standard that would be a lot more comfortable if it were an XL-Long.”
