flexible enough for sport bike riding
I was looking to replace my English-made riding shorts because, after 11 track days on my '05 Suzuki SV650S, the hip padding pieces are starting to split within their pockets. It appears they could not take the repeated, severe bending & twisting that occurs when hanging off. I chose these Klim Tactical pants (just the shorts will legging attached below the knee) to replace both the armoured shorts and the tights I wear under my leathers. Now I have only one waist band and these shorts/pants have a fly opening in front like on underwear. The "thin suede texture chamois" is thin enough to not be too noticeable when off the bike (my guess is about a little more than 5mm thick). On the bike, I don't even notice it. See photo. I can feel the chamois when I'm walking around but I'll get used to it. Note the shape & placement of the padding segments at the front of the hip. I have confirmed that these allow me to hang off with minimal twisting and bunching in that area. There are more protective armoured shorts on the Fortnine website but I'm convinced that they would not have the flex at the hip required for hanging off. I suspect those more heavily armoured shorts would work much better for the riding positions on MX, ADV & MTB bikes (the reviews on F9 are, primarily, from such riders). Nice materials and feel like a good quality product. I am 41" at hip and 38" belt line, 185 lbs, 5'11" and the Large fits perfectly. The waist band sits at my belt line. The English ones sit at my navel (Yuck. so I rolled down the waist band-Yuck). The coccyx pad is pretty small & thin but I wear a coccyx extension on my back protector. Best to call Fortnine for help ordering as the size chart for bottoms is in numbers but the ordering options are in S,M,L, etc.
