Metzeler Roadtec 01 Rear Tire Item # 478594

Description
ROADTEC™ 01 is the latest evolution in Metzeler touring tires. With a focus on enhancing grip on wet and low friction surfaces, increased mileage, and a high degree of adaptability to different motorcycles, riding styles, and conditions, the ROADTEC™ 01 provides modern solutions to past and future needs.
- Increased grip on wet roads, with a focus on low friction surfaces (such as city streets and worn tarmac, low temperature), thanks to radial positioning of grooves
- Rebalanced tire stiffness to allow a better adherence of the rubber with the tarmac micro-asperities, increasing mechanical grip even on lower friction surfaces
- Belt and carcass tension parameters upgraded to increase stability on rear tires during strong braking
- Increased mileage vs. Roadtec Z8 Interact (up to 10%), thanks to a different footprint shape (larger and shorter) which also enhances motorcycle handling
- Higher wear resistance, obtained through a revised land/sea ratio on the rear tire in conjunction with the new tread design, ensures product performance consistency allowing users to enjoy the tire for its entire service life
- Metzeler multi-compound rear on selected sizes, with increased harmonization between the different compounds
- HWM (Heavy Weight Motorcycles) special version available to improve performances on motorcycles requiring them (see Metzeler website for details)
- Tubeless (TL)
- (W)-rated for speeds of 270 km/h (168+ mph)

Great feel and traction. Good life.
Bought these for a trip 2200 miles and very little wear so far. They see confidence inspiring on my ST4s. On a stretch of hwy 20 California below coastal 101I came onto a stretch of road covered in oil on the down slope. Bike began a slide, tires caught and nothing aggressive just caught. The tire on back doesn't wiggle around like PR4s. The 2 ply hwv on the back is perfect on my Duck. Well buy again.

Infallable grip
My bike came from the factory wearing sport oriented Dunlop tires that lasted about 11,000km before needing a new pair. I don't like to compromise on safety, so when my tires are the only thing between me and the road I feel it's worth investing in a top of the line touring tire. I'll admit to being quite a spirited rider, especially on an empty twisty mountain pass, and these tires have never missed a beat. My rear tire wore out after an impressive 18,300km so I replaced it with a new Roadtec 01, but the front will probably last to 25,000km or so. With the way these tires handle everything I throw at them, I'll probably be a Roadtec customer for life!

Amazing Tires!
I bought these in 2017, and have since put almost 13,000 kms on them. The back is squaring off now and there is some minor scalping on the front. I'm sure I can still get another 3000 kms on these tires. These tires replaced the OEM Trailwings on my '07 V-Strom 1000. The Metzelers have literally transformed my bike. It is much more flickable, and I can lay the bike over in curves with confidence. Wet traction is second only to the Michelin Pilot Power 4's, and the Metzeler Roadtec 01's outperform the PP4's in the dry.
I have done several long trips loaded up with luggage, and these Roadtec 01's have been a joy to ride on. I feel comfortable and confident on dry and wet roads on these tires. These tires definitely put the 'sport' into sport touring despite my V-Strom not being exactly a sport bike. I will definitely buy these tires again.

Super Fast Shipping!
I've only got a couple hundred Km's on them but they seem to be very stable and sticky. I put the BattleAxe's on last time and they were fanta-sticky! I wore my foot-peg nubbins off right till my muffler was scraping. But they wore out in about 7000 km's. Honestly $160 for that much fun is cheap in my opinion!
I'm hoping the Roadtec 01 lasts a bit longer though.
So far they seem to be sticky & stable enough although I've not ridden in the rain with them yet.
I love buying from FortNine. Easy buying and fast delivery.
If you're teetering on whether to buy here or not... Go ahead!
You'll not regret it.

Starting to square off with 5,000km on them
Tires have a nice road feel and are very quiet. At about 4,000km they are starting to square off, so I doubt these will last very long. Being used on a vstrom 1000 which isn’t a very heavy bike.

extra life?
Purchased May 2017 and only manged 6,800 kms. rear is completely gone, front is at 2mm remaining. I loved the feel of this tire from the start and was hoping to like them for a lot longer. Top marks for handling, confidence, traction but I'm left wondering where that 20% more life went?
I do tour but generally solo without much luggage, maybe 30lbs.
I'll try the new Z8's this year.

Disappointed...
After 10000 km, the front tire is scalloping... I was hoping to get at lease 15 to 20000 km. I'm looking for a replacement.

Questions
What is the difference between 150/70-17 and 150/70-R17? Thanks in advance.
The "R" means the tire is a radial tire, and a "-" or a "B" before the rim size means the tire is bias ply. Essentially the construction of the tire is different. Your owner's manual will recommend a specific tire size for your bike, and will have one of these before the rim size. You need to order the same as recommended in your owner's manual

What is the difference between 150/70-17 and 150/70-R17? I've checked M's site and still can't figure it out.
The R stands for Radial tire. A radial tire is manufactured using a different design technology than older Bias Ply tires. All current tire technologies use radial tires because of superior performance. The R in the tire designation has become redundant and that is why it is left off.

Contemplating on buying a Metzler Roadtec 01 rear tire for my Yamaha yzfR1. I see a "HWM" model for heavy weight bikes, I guess it 2 ply instead of one, would it matter which one I bought? Would I give up some handling for durability? how about 50-55?
My Duc ST4s I got about 9 thousand miles from a set with a bit left on the front.
HWV on back.

This HWM option is confusing. The metzeler website tells you nothing about it. I entered my bike info there and still doesn't specify which tire to use. Google mentions any bike over 699cc is HWM, so that means i would want the HWM version for my FZ10?
I use the HWM on back of my Ducati ST4s and the regular on front.
So yes on your ZX10.
