Michelin Commander III Touring Front Tire Item # 718239

Description
The MICHELIN Commander III Touring tire is designed to go the distance for Baggers with excellent wet grip and longevity that is designed to exceed its predecessor with new tread compounds. The distinctive tread patterns and patented velvet sidewall designs of the new line enhance the styling of all V-Twin motorcycles.
Michelin developed this tire line to optimize riding enjoyment with a focus on improving the tread life and wet grip versus the already widely accepted Commander II tire line. The commitment to MICHELIN Total Performance makes the MICHELIN Commander III tire line the trusted choice for the V-Twin community.
Performance:
- Silica Rain Technology integrated into the tire tread compound prevents all forms of uneven wear
- The unique high-density carcass improves maneuverability while the tire's aramid fiber crown ply enhances endurance while reducing mass
- Exceptional wet weather grip and traction owed to the numerous lengthwise tread grooves to enhance water dispersion and a 3% higher notch rate than the Michelin Commander II
- Incomparable longevity at no cost to dry and wet traction
Technologies:
- Casing rigidity, handling and ease of installation are improved by square bead wires
- Excellent stability is provided by Aramid tread plies on the tire to resist centrifugal growth
- Integrated Amplified Density Technology delivers excellent feedback and handling in a dense, ultra rigid tire casing
- Premium Touch Technology sidewalls

Great Tire
It was time to replace my Michelin Commander II on the Harley. I had rode many sweet kms on it including a 2 1/2 month non stop tour of the U.S. including route 66, Civil War Trail, Dragons Tail and more. I road many Kms in Ontario and western Canada. With the exception of extensive gravel, I rode through almost every road and weather condition imaginable.
I had read reviews from people who had issues but none of which I experienced.
Because of my experience with the Commander II, I replaced the tire with the Michelin Commander III and rode throughout the fall until the snow began to fall and having rode close to 2000kms. So far I have found the tire to ride smooth and quiet.
It grips well on tight turns on wet roads as well as it does dry. That's impressive considering the fall rides are much cooler temperatures and the tire has a colder surface in which to grip.

Comfortable Control
Mounted my first set Michelin Commander III’s a couple months ago. Now have 1300+km and I’m enjoying the smooth quiet ride. They feel great on the twisty roads, wet or dry. So much better than the original set of tires on my Ultra Limited. I liked them so much that I have another set already waiting on my shelf.

Great Upgrade
Recently purchased these to replace my Dunlops. Was very happy with price and speed of delivery as with all Fortnine products. There was a "sticky" that was felt immediately and gave me a little more confidence in the turns. I would recommend this product for sure.

Poor Wet Traction
I have been riding on this rear touring tire for the last 9000 km and recently had a scary experience in wet conditions. While maintaining speed (not accelerating) the tire broke loose on new wet asphalt. Two of my friends who also have Street Glides and the same rear tire have both experienced similar traction issues with this tire. None of us felt it was a hydroplane situation and none of us were in the center of the lane where oil collects. If you are considering this tire or already have it be careful in wet conditions.

Great handling
I bought these tires just before leaving on a cross Canada ride. Travelled through every kind of weather except snow and these tires gave really good grip. I've read the reviews and haven't had any of the issues other riders have had, no vibration and excellent in the rain.

Great tires
I haven't ridden in the rain yet, but for dry riding they are great. I have them on my 2020 Indian Challenger and they feel better than the originals. They don't come in the original size so I went up to a 65 series tire with no issues.

Great Dunlop Alternative
These tires are considerably lighter than many of the alternatives including the Dunlops. The profile runs smooth with very subtle transitions between centre and edge tread. Overall they feel more like a classic sport bike profile rather than a straight line cruiser. Also very neutral steering and zero hint of hands free wobble. Love ‘em.

Questions
Can I put a CIII touring on the front and a CIII Cruiser on the back? This would be the only combo Michelin has for the size of tire I'm looking for.
Michelin's official answer to this question is: "To ensure the best level of performance and safety, our ranges are developed based on a uniform fitting to the front and rear. It is therefore recommended that different ranges are not mixed on the same motorcycle. If different generations are mixed, it is advisable to fit the MICHELIN Commander III to the front wheel."

can I put this on the front with a dunlop 402 on the back
Unless a bike was equipped with two different tires from the factory, we do not recommend mixing tire brands because differences in tire handling and performance can cause an otherwise well-behaved motorcycle to act in an unpredictable manner.

I have a Rebel 500, and looking for a 130/90/16 front tire. Would this not work since it says rear? Thanks
No this will not work. This tire can only be installed in the rear position.

Wonder what the pros and cons are Commander II vs Commander III for front tire
Commander III's are improved in three regards: the silica component of the tire helps with traction in wet conditions, the casing is more rounded and rigid, and Michelin has improved the durability without any sacrifice to the other characteristics of this tire. Siping is deeper on the III's, also making changes to address vibration concerns that the previous ones had.
