Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR Rear Tire Item # 610823

Description
The new knobbly enduro on/off tyre for adventure without limits. The road and on/off touring equipment for riders looking for knobbly tyre but demanding grip, safety on wet and comfort.
Features:
- Blocks are longer and wider, and the longitudinal distance between each line of knobs has been reduced to increase the contact patch, without compromising off-road traction
- Compound, with a high content of silica, offers increased grip on both dry and wet surfaces, stability and a superior resistance to abrasion
- Technological innovations provide traction on dirt, stability at high speeds, on-road handling agility and grip in all riding conditions
- Increased width and length of the tire's contour makes a larger contact patch for better stability
- Heat, generated by high speed, is distributed across a wider surface to prevent knob tearing

As a previous reviewer,Johndo007, the tires are great at first, but they simply didn't last on my motorcycle.
Had to replace the rear after 3,300km. Probably could have squeezed 4,000km out of it, but was on a roadtrip, and had few opportunities to swap out the rear.
The front tire lasted about 8,000km, but honestly should have been replaced at the same time as the rear.
The front wore very unevenly, and after about 4-5k km, had terrible turn in /cornering characteristics. It also started to howl constantly.
Great when new, they simply don't last long, and (front) was terrible after the 50% wear mark.

Wears uneven quickly
The concept is great, but with only 3500km on them on my Scrambler 1200 XE, I'm not too impressed. They perform well when new, but the rear melts like butter and some of the knobs on the front tire on worn at an angle (in under 3000km)...Quite expensive for a tire performing like that. The rear will be completely done at 5000km (max) and the front, well the front will probably look pretty bad too in 5000km. I ride fairly agressively and wasn't expecting these to last like touring tires...but I've never seen any front tire wear like that on any of my bikes before in so little km. Will be going back to Shinkos 804/805. I wont get much more mileage out of the rear tire, but the front wears evenly and will last at least twice as long, and the tires are like half the price and they perform just as well in everything, even a bit better offroad than these.

Great performance tire
Used these on a 6k trip out which 2k was off road. Very happy how bike handled in all conditions, felt very confident. Rear tire is a bit noisy in the first few hundred km however much less noisy then previous Continental 70 TKC rocks. These tires are not that great in mud as advertised but not worse then any other 50/50 tire that I tried. After 6k I still have at least 3k left. No mater what tires I try, they don't last past 8-9k on my bike so I'm happy with thread life

Polyvalent

Excellent tire in all conditions
I've installed this Rally STR on my Ducati Scrambler.
It's better than the original MT-60 in every conditions.
Road, Gravel and Rain. Better traction, and better confidence while leaning the bike.
I can't talk about durability for now.

Most Under-rated Tire
They came stock on my T7 and I rode across Canada on them (and back across Canada with just the front). The rear was to the carcass at about 8000km which is fine. The front ended up lasting about 12,000km and still had life left. The front had the typical knobby tire uneven wear that didn't affect anything. I rode the rear even when nearly balled (but still ok on the sides) out muddy quad trails, through flooded trails and creek crossings up past the footpegs, steep loose rocky hill-climbs in the mountains, even spent a day riding technical rocky trails with a group of 4x4 quads. It was a workout... The STRs were not really great at any of this, BUT I got there just fine without so much as dabbing a toe here and there. After this I put on a very expensive set of Motoz Rallz tires and went back out to some of those same trails multiple times over the next week or so. I wanted to go further out some of the more difficult parts, but found I had to turn back again at just the same places. It's not the tire that limits you here, it's just the sheer mass and awkwardness of these bikes while being matched with 90s technology suspension. I say this as a guy who races XC and hard enduro in the mountains 5-10 times a year - I was surprised how little difference the aggressive looking Motoz tire made in the dirt.
The Rallz tires were about 1% or 2% better off-road, but terrible on the street and I had to slow down to about 80% of my normal street pace, 60% if it was raining. The Rallz would spin out in the rain coming out of intersections, and you could feel it letting go taking corners at a moderate pace. No surprise there really for a knobby. They also felt like 2 heavy flywheels spooling up when you got on the throttle - heavy. They were very noisy above 60km/h. I had to drop the forks in the clamps a few mm to get ride of some headshake from the aggressive front knobs. I switched back to my old STR front tire and a dunlop 50/50 rear tire for the return trip back across the country and I left the Motoz tires behind. For me the poor performance on-road of that tire was absolutely not worth the little bit of traction gained off-road. This I found ironic because I'm a life long off roader and don't care much for street riding yet I had the most fun on twisty paved roads. Once in a while I convince myself it'll be a good idea to take a weeks-long motorcycle trip (I always say NEVER AGAIN).
This trip left me in a bit of disbelief to how good of an all arounder the STR really is, too bad they're so hard to get...

Hi there, can I run these tires with tubes? Thanks!
Yes. You can run any tubeless tire with tubes. Not the other way around though.
