Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well but Improvisation Required I bought this a few days ago and installed it on one of my bikes. A few people here have noted issues with the mounting and I had the same issues but came up with a quick fix that I will provide below. The RAM forkstem mount works well but not if you follow the included mounting instructions. The problem is the included hardware includes a single locknut that tightens to a point that the bottom plastic nut pocket washer (Part F) that grabs the rubber just rotates and the whole assembly does not tighten inside the fork stem hole. The way to fix this is as follows (note I will refer to the part numbering included in the Ram Mount Instructions): 1. Instead of cutting the rubber 1/8" above where it meets the forkstem per the instructions - cut it pretty well at the point where it meets the forkstem. Reduce the distance between the top cut and the bottom cut to about 3/4" rather than the 1" stated in the instructions (see note 1 below). 2. Buy an additional 5mm nut from Home Depot (just a regular 5 mm nut - not a locknut). 3. When putting the whole assembly together, washer (Part E) should be a size that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the fork mount hole (so it can slide down inside the fork mount) 4. As you put together the whole assembly following the instructions put the 5mm Home Depot nut in place of part D and it will go into the bottom of part F and behave like a captive nut. The Home Depot nut is not a lock nut and will now spin and tighten without locking prematurely properly when the main screw is tightened. 5. Next put one of the remaining extra smaller washers and the brass locknut (Part D) on the main screw below the extra Home Depot nut (that is now sitting inside Part F). 6. Tighten Part F until there is just a small amount of vertical movement in rubber cone (Part A) – i.e the rubber cone is not compressed. 7. Now tighten locknut (Part D) until the washer above it presses lightly against Part F – the whole point of this is that the additional bottom washer and the lockout will now prevent Part F and the Home Depot Locknut from falling down into the fork stem hole when the assembly is loosened (if and when you want to remove it). 8. Now insert the whole assembly into the fork stem hole and tighten the top screw. Everything should now tighten up properly – as the assembly is tightened Part F compresses Part A causing it to press against the fork stem hole walls so it won’t move. This should now be tight and stay in place. Note that if you want you can put a bit of threadlocker (Locktite) on the screw thread above the Home Depo Nut – this will prevent it from coming lose from vibration [as the HD Nut is not a locknut] however personally I am quite content to periodically check the tightness of the mount assembly and add a 5 mm allen key to the bike's toolkit just in case it ever needs tightening while out on a long trip. Note 1: What we are doing here is cutting the cone down to a length that will allow the additional Home Depot Nut to be added. When I did this I cut the length of the rubber cone Part (A) down a bit at a time, cutting from the bottom smaller diameter end, until I could get the final locknut and washer on the screw without compressing the rubber cone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mauvais!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Impressed. Complete waste of money!! I read the mixed reviews and decided to give it a try anyways. I could not get the main bolt tight so the unit never sits tight in place and it rotates at will. The grommet kept pulling out if I went too tight as well. I know, some said to use loctite but thats good to secure the nut and bolt AFTER its good and tight. I even reached out to Ram cistomer support and they never responded to my complaints so I now have a glorified paper weight. Save yourself the aggrevation and avoid this kit!!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed I bought the regular size x-grip based on reading this was correct for an iPhone8. On fitting it I find that the grips either turn the volume to zero or power off the ‘phone as the grips align with the phone buttons. On contacting Ram they suggest I should have procured the larger x-grip. This makes little sense as the iPhone 8 is not a large phone I thought. Seems that this was a waste of money as you have to offset the position of the phone in use which makes it rather precarious and the tether can not be used as the phone is not placed properly to allow it to fit. Also, there is some movement in the grip (it rotates) when in use. I can’t recommend it unfortunately. Two stars because Fortnine delivered quickly as always.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid solution for Sport Bikes As a few others have mentioned, the installation of the stem mount is a bit of a pain. Once you get it all installed, it seems to be pretty good. The mount is sturdy and you don't run the risk of your phone falling off when you use the "rubber tether". Downside is price, but options are limited. Also, the mount can press the buttons on the side of your phone (volume, power). You have to position the phone carefully. Other than that. Pretty good!
