                  Description

Lightweight, CE Certified protector jacket to be worn stand-alone or under a jacket

This is not your average protector jacket; this is the Nucleus. Made to protect with high levels of CE certified protection, made to look understated and smart, the Nucleus protector jacket can be worn as a stand-alone jacket or serve as a tactical, protective base to wear under any jacket.

Taking motorcycle gear back to the core

Constructed from abrasion-resistant and comfortable 3D air mesh and polyester stretch, the slim-fitting Nucleus takes protective motorcycle gear back to its core. Those core characteristics do involve CE-level 2 for both shoulders and elbows, and the back with SEEFLEX and SEESOFT armor in charge of impact protection with CE-level 1 SEESOFT serving split, chest protector duties.

                  Comfort and style; covered

The low-cut collar and the single chest pocket underline the intent to wear the Proteus as a base, covering things up with a garment of choice. Whether that's a DIRT Series off-road jacket or your favorite casual jacket or even a sweater, the Proteus will have you covered, looking your best and most comfortable.

                  3D air mesh fabric

The 3D air mesh construction is a must-have for riders who are in need of cooling down on the hottest of days. Furthermore, air flows directly to the body and helps minimize overheating when riding in warmer climates.

                  SEEFLEX CE-level 2 protection

Certified CE-level 2 according to the norm EN1621-1:2012, the SEEFLEX protector is an innovative creation from the in-house R&D department. The norm also tests the impact levels in various +/- temperature ranges. The SEEFLEX protectors easily surpass the norm without sacrificing wearer comfort. Because of its open-structure composition, they're breathable and allow air to easily pass through; helping to prevent the rider from building up an unnecessary heat.

SEESOFT AIR CE-level 2 back protector Stratum jacket

The SEESOFT AIR is Rev'it's extra ventilated CE-level 2 back protector insert that is designed to absorb variable impacts without compromising comfort, ventilation, or freedom of movement. The highly impact-resistant blend of Nitrille and Polynorbornene rubber results in a memory foam that is multi-impact rated and CE certified to the highest level (EN 1621-2:2014 - level 2).

                  Chest pocket

The chest pocket provides a convenient, secure, and within-reach storage solution for essential small items such as keys, cards, and smartphones. Moreover, the chest pocket enhances the garment's practical versatility, enabling wearers to maintain a sleek and organized appearance without the need for additional bags or accessories.

Divided SEESOFT CE-level 1 chest protector

This garment includes Rev'it's SEESOFT CE-Level 1 divided chest protectors (EN 1621-3:2018 DC Type B); an extra level of armor to help keep you safe on the road. As the name suggests, the protectors are divided; one for each side of the chest. This way, the protectors do not get in the way of easily putting on and taking off the jacket or putting them in/taking them out. The highly impact-resistant blend of Nitrille and Polynorbornene rubber results in a memory foam that is multi-impact rated and CE certified Level 1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I had it a day but... At 175cm and 107.5kg and um not athletic; I was looking at this to be my summer jacket and to use as an armoured mid-layer. After 3 seasons my other riding coats are way too hot and even in the cooler months I can still get some sweat going due to the lack of airflow. Based on my measurements my chest and waist put me at the top end of 2XL; which is 1 size larger than my riding shirt and jacket. I ordered the 2XL, the idea being to get something as "fitted" as possible to layer over but it was too tight in around the arms, reaching forward cut into my biceps just enough to make me wonder if I should go up a size. After trying to layer my hoodie and rain shell and finding my movement was too restrictive to get those on I ordered a size up (3XL). The 3XL came in and trying it on the fit is nice; room to move but not baggy. First I tried it with my layers and the first thing I noticed was my rain smock (XL Columbia) would fit over it; it gets caught on the back protector but I have the mobility to reach up and over. Then I tried my jackets, a leather bomber jacket 2XL and my St. John’s Bay Leather trench coat L. The 2XL was a little baggy and the L was comfortable. I then put my Columbia Jacket insulator\puffer size L on under and over. Over felt ok but and under felt like the jackets loft was being squished out. Then I moved on to shirts; a white 2XL cotton T went over it like a Jersey. I can see this being good to cover the black on a really hot day. My 2XL Hoodie will fit over, and under in a pinch, while my XL hoodie fits under nicely under but over you can see the material stretch a little more than it should. I then put on my thermals, wool, thicker fleece, and a thin compression. All fit well under the coat and I didn’t try over. Lastly, I took the armour out of my jacket, a Gryphon Vancouver XL, and wore it over and it worked well. My Gryphon I bought as an XL based on my measures and ended up with the shell fitting me but the inner puffer\insulator didn’t; it cuts deep into my biceps. In all of this I found the armour stayed mostly where it needed to be, much better than my other jackets, although I think the jacket could do with some adjustment straps around the elbow armour. The arms a bit too long but being overweight I needed to go up those sizes to fit my gut. That said, the sleeve length is still manageable but the thumb loops are too loose to keep looped over the thumbs. Pairing it with my 2XL hoodie I went for a ride at 14C riding 50km\h to 90km\h and literally froze my derrière off in less than 20min; the air flow was excellent. Putting the smock over it to block the wind provided “enough” heat but I probably would have preferred having my Gryphon shell with my XL hoodie under the Nucleus or one of my thermals. What does it all mean? Well, I think I would have rather bought this starting out than my current jackets. There is enough working combinations of warmth and rain proofing where any new rider could grab this and make it work for all seasons without buying multiples. Stand alone it is a little loose in the arms but it is still better fitting than anything else I have had and I can probably fix this with some gym time. No armour\bicep straps and sleeve length are my only complaints and if I had just put a little more time in the gym this likely wouldn’t be an issue. As I ride and work out I might be a bit annoyed to have to replace it with a 2XL as this one starts getting baggy as I reach optimal shape. As for impact protection it offers more than all my other jackets too in terms of armour. The back protector is CE2 but also much longer than the one in my Gryphon ending closer to my tail bone where he Gryphon stops just past the nape of my back. Elbow armour also covers more forearm and there are some added bits, like chest armour, that my other jackets aren’t even provisioned for. Sliding it is rated at AA but I don’t know what that really means; it is poly so if you are going fast enough where a slide could melt it into your skin; maybe look for something else. My riding isn’t much faster than the speed limit and AA is the “touring” rating. If I am on the highway chances are there will be something over the Nucleus to cut the wind, like my Gryphon shell or a lighter smock, that will add to the AA; unless it is really hot. Otherwise I am on back roads topping out at 90km\h or I’m on a dirt road\off road trail between 30-70km\h; either way I think AA is perfectly fine at those speeds on it’s own. Value for money? On one hand $400CAD taxes in can get you lots of other nice Jackets that come with insulation and waterproof liners, more pockets, etc… On the other hand this at $400CAD gives you something that potentially has the flexibility to replace a lot of other jackets too. It’s going to come down to your riding style and what you like. Personally, I have lots of workwear and outdoor gear I had before getting a bike so getting something that complements and works with those is worth it to me. If I had this first, I likely would have bought more rated hoodies or armoured external layers specific for warmth or rain that I could use off the bike for hiking and camping. To me it is certainly above average.

How snug or tight is this jacket meant to be worn?

                  Asked by: hotdogtom
The fit is quite loose, and although it's intended as a base layer, it leans towards the bulkier side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpalTGBsV2M
