Rick's Motorsport Electrics has been providing starters for over 30 years. Rick's manufacturers new and rebuilds custom starters for motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, off road, street bikes, & snowmobiles.
All rebuilt starters require a core exchange and come with a one year replacement warranty. Most new and rebuilt starters are built to stock specification, but we do offer some high output stator versions as part of the Hot Shot Series so you can get even more electrical power from your machine
- Affordable starters are constructed with longer-life bearings than OEM many OEM starter motors have an unprotected output needle bearing on the outside of the output shafts seal; moisture can and does enter the output cap of the electric motor and follows the armature shaft to the unprotected needle bearing, which corrodes the bearing
- Ricks takes the extra step of installing a double-sealed ball bearing, whith the output shaft seal on the outside of the bearing in their new aftermarket unit
- This simple application of common-sense engineering does tow things: first, the outside bearing is now protected from damging water entry, and second, the sealed ball bearing is replaceable

Questions
Is this a complete electric starter kit or simply a replacement starting motor?
Just the starter motor only. It has been working for 3 years since I installed.
I had other issues related to starting. Battery was not charging. I replaced the Rectifier/Regulator (it was easiest to replace). Turned out to be the stator. I had that, as well as the starter clutch gear, replaced in the shop (due to complexity) last year. It starts like new now.

Does this starter require a different gear to be purchased for 1985 yamaha virago xv1000 ? or does it work with existing oem bike parts
