I didn't really need a dark smoke shield as the helmet has a drop down sun shield. But it does provide a bit of an outlaw look with my matte black helmet. Not necessarily practical as the weather will determine its effectiveness and need, but we're bikers and sometimes we just want to look mysterious. Anyway, it took a little time to get snapped into place as you can't see through the shield the way you can with a clear shield. But it does go on and it looks pretty cool. I did use the drop down sun shield as well as the dark smoke on one particularly bright day so it added a little more visual comfort. I could see the value if you're traveling on a sun filled day and you want to protect your whole face from the sun's rays. And it's a fun option to boot.
