The EXO-R420 helmet continues to set a new standard for Scorpion EXO's full face street helmets at a very competitive price point. An all new advanced polycarbonate shell is more aerodynamic and smaller resulting in an ultra lightweight SNELL-approved helmet. The aero tuned ventilation system uses a large top vent and mouth vents engineered to allow more airflow to the riders head while maintaining low noise levels. The EXO-R420 now features the new Elliptec II faceshield with a latching shield locking mechanism located in the lower center of the shield. This makes the faceshield more secure and provides a tighter seal against the gasket. The faceshield can easily be removed without tools, and the EverClear No-Fog coating helps keep your vision clear in cold and damp environmental conditions. The KwikWick II comfort liner is moisture wicking, anti-microbial, quick drying and can be easily removed and is machine washable. The EXO-R420 is an updated true high performance helmet at an unbeatable price.

Best first helmet for the moneyTL;DR - for your first helmet, this is the best you can get for the money.
I've owned this helmet for just shy of a year and thought I'd go ahead and review it. This is actually my second helmet purchase. I did no research when I bought my first helmet, instead relying on the local powersports dealership to help me pick one out. The helmet they suggested was heavy, didn't fit properly, had extremely poor visibility, and started visibly falling apart within a week of purchase. Took that one back, did my research, and bought this helmet instead. I could not be happier with my purchase.
I'll list out the negatives first. This is an entry level helmet. It's both DOT and SNELL approved so they had to cut corners somewhere to bring you that level of rating at a $150 price point.
* There are only two shell sizes which means that unless you have a large head, the helmet is probably going to look really big on you
* It's a bit heavy at 3.75lbs. It's not unbearable, but may take some getting used to
* It's a bit noisy at highway speeds. Again, not unbearable, but certainly louder than other options. Wear ear plugs and you'll be fine
* It has some wind buffeting at highway speeds. I don't notice it at all until I reach 70mph and it's really distinct at 75mph
* Only comes with the clear lens. All the pictures show it with the dark lens but that's a $60 upgrade
* It's pinlock compatible if you buy the upgrade pinlock ready lens
* In colder weather (32F/0C and colder) the stock lens *will* fog up on you, though it clears pretty fast once you stop moving
So with all those negatives, why did I give still give it a 5-star rating? Because as a first helmet, you're not going to find one that gives you as much protection (SNELL, emergency quick release system cheek pads) and this level of comfort at this price point. While I've never tested its safeness (and hope I never do), I've worn it for multiple hours in a row and not experienced any pressure points, or uncomfortableness. Being able to remove the inner linings and wash them (in the washing machine!) is extremely handy because while it has solid ventilation, if you're in stop and go traffic, you're going to sweat, and that lining is going to get stinky. Pop out the lining, wash it, let it air dry and pop it back in good as new (just make sure the emergency pulls go toward the chin, not the back of the helmet).
Other highlights:
* The shield lock keeps the face shield locked tight, and I can open it with gloved hands without an issue
* Speaking of the shield, I've ridden in rain and never had the seal leak, keeping the inside of the shield completely dry
* Ventilation is solid. I've worn this helmet in 110F heat index and as long as I'm moving at least a little bit, my head is fine temp-wise
* Has cut-outs for glasses, so if you wear glasses, or want to wear sunglasses, you can without causing discomfort
* Scorpion customer service is AMAZING. Seriously amazing. I contacted them with some issues I was having and they completely took care of me, even though in the end we discovered it was user error.
I have absolutely no regrets with this helmet. Probably one of my best purchases gear-wise. I suggest it to every new rider looking for their first helmet. Yeah, it would have been nice to have a second, tinted shield, or pinlock-compatible shield, or more shell sizes, but all of those would raise the price. For $150 MSRP, you're not going to find a nicer helmet.
When I'm ready for a new helmet, based on my experience with this one, and Scorpion in general, I'll probably end up with another Scorpion lid.

Surprisingly great helmetI recently bought this helmet and I am really happy with it. It is incredibly comfortable and quiet! Much better than the $800 Shoei it is replacing! It is a little larger and heavier than other helmets I have had, but hardly noticeable. Highly recommended.

Good looking with freat priceThis is my first Helmet, overall I am happy with it but the only problem I face was the air intake vent at the top of the helmet comes off frequently. It fell off so many times and I had to search and find it and put it back. Other than that it is a good helmet.

Bought this as my first helmet for going out riding on the back of my spouses motorcycle, love it. Fits really nicely, and the design is beautiful. Not a super heavy helmet, and I have no issues seeing in it.
You would have to check the safety requirements of the helmet at the track course you are going to.

Is this snell SA2015 certified? What is the difference between M2015 an SA2015?
Asked by: Michelle
It is Snell M2015 certified (XS-2XL only). SA2015 is the Helmet Standard For Use in Competitive Automotive Sports, M2015 is the Helmet Standard For Use in Motorcycling. The "SA" (Special Application") helmet standards are written to ensure that a helmet offers the best safety protection for auto racing drivers who are restrained in their vehicles - i.e. making the interior of SA helmets from fire retardant fabrics, not required for motorcycling.

where can i find a mirror shield?
Asked by: winston
You can find all the shields for this awesome helmet, right here on Fortnine. Personally got the gold shield and it is great, just enough tint in it to protect from the sun’s glare but not too much for night riding.

My head measures at about 23 and a half inches. The size chart says I should order a large, however I've heard this helmet runs alittle small. Would you recommend purchasing a L or XL?
Asked by: Anonymous
Fits true to size based on the average customer review. We recommend trying the large first.
