Quality, innovative design
I've had this helmet for a month. Ordered it on a Sunday and it was delivered in a couple of days. Excellent product, with many features. The shield is extremely clear, with no discernible distortion. It fits similar to other Shoei helmets, except for the smallish opening at the bottom, making it a bit snug to pull on. However, once on, the fit is very comfortable. If you fit a medium Shoei RF1100, or 1200, this helmet will fit in a similar way.
One of the reasons that I purchased this helmet was for the peak. I wanted it to help shade the early morning/setting sun from my eyes. It does just that. I ride mostly on paved roads (90%), with some gravel (10%), on a large displacement adventure style bike. The helmet is a bit noisier than my five year old Shoei RF1100, and I am unsure if the peak is adding to the noise. The peak is removable. I just haven't got around to doing that to see what difference it makes to the sound levels. Shoei has done a good job on designing the peak so that it does not catch the wind, at least at reasonable street riding speeds (the only speeds that I have tested).
The helmet's cheek pads are removable from the bottom to ease the helmet's removal in an emergency. This is a great safety feature and should be on all helmets sold. The lining is plush, removable and washable. I run a bike-to-bike communication system, attached to the helmet. The wiring was easy to install, and there are cutouts in the helmet for the earpieces.
Cooling vents allow air to flow through the Hornet II, and these work quite well up to the +26 C temperatures that I have experienced this year.
All in all, I would recommend this helmet. It looks the part when riding a big adventure bike, and the design and look draw compliments.

Fantastic!!
I bought this to replace my Icon Variant, which i thought was a decent bucket, and it is. But after putting this thing on, i don't think i could go back. Nothing against the Variant, but this thing beats it out in (almost) every category: comfort, field of view, protection, wind noise, etc.....
The helmet itself isn't overly quiet, which was something I was searching for in a helmet with a peak, but as I learned I wanted less wind noise. And it delivered in that department. I can hear much better.
This bucket is VERY comfy. Fits my normal skull like a glove(contents of skull not so normal).
The X2 ventilation is far superior to my Variant. Had a couple +30C days and I think this will work well for hot summer riding. It is designed to clear the fog and it does. It also comes with a breath guard, but in warm weather I don't think you will need it.
I use the Uclear communication system and unfortunately the speakers do not fit in the provided cut outs. Fortunately, I don't need them. I left the inserts in and the speakers sit outside, still very comfortable.
The peak does not pull your head around. I guess the time in the wind tunnel paid off.
All in all, you can feel the quality in the product, so i guess that justifies the price in my opinion.

Quality out of the box
My first ever expensive helmet, normally I'm in the cheaper end of the price range but I decided to spend big and glad I did. The moment you unpack and slip this bucket on you can see it's all top end quality. The inner pads are thick so it goes on a little tight but had softens up soon enough. The visor is very stable when only partially opened and when fully opened seems like it goes very far back. I like that the visor comes off without needing to take the peak off, speaking of which the peak does very well at highway speeds with very little buffeting.
Therein lies my only gripe with the helmet. I like to take the peak off for the fighter pilot look but unfortunately the peak is also a vent, meaning when the peak comes off there is a small open hole in the top of the helmet with no cover. I contacted Shoei and there is nothing they can do so it's up to me to find a small rubber grommet to seal it up.
Aside from that this is a helmet I will want to keep for several years. A+ for including a breath guard and pin lick visor.

Super premium helmet as expected
In short all things are good on this helmet. Its supremely comfy, built with care, and looks really good. Feels lighter than it seems on paper, though it is a bit hefty for something you might want to take offroad. Air flow is good, and mounting a com system is relatively simple with the speaker cut outs.
My favorite feature by far is the visor, which is drastically easier to swap than basically any other ADV helmet in this price range. No bolts or tools needed, takes about 30 seconds once you work it out. For that alone I would choose the hornet over its competitors. Replacement shields are very expensive though, particularly if you're like me and buy the silver mirror one...

I'm sold on this helmet.
The fit for me like all Shoei's I have had is fantastic. This one is really tight going in through the neck area with your head but that is to be expected with the narrow opening to help keep it quiet. That leads to noise, this helmet is quieter than my Neotec 2. The wind does not grab the peak at all, nor does it seem to make any noise. It is great when the sun is low, just tilt your head down just slightly and it blocks the sun. I also put a dark visor on mine. It is a tad on the heavy side as is my Neotec 2. It was around 3.75 lbs or something out of the box and 4 lb on the nose when equipped with my Sena 20S. It does not feel heavy on my head though, it must be very well balanced. The only slight negative I have noticed so far is when you are in very high gusting winds the extended chin tries to twist your head downwind with the strongest gusts. Ventilation I would rate as average, I cannot really rate it properly as my windscreen really protects me well. Standing up I would place it in the middle of the pack with other helmets I have owned. With all the points on the plus column I can live with that. It's definitely a keeper. My head is just shy of 59mm and I have the large. It is a good fit but down the road I may get one size thicker cheek pads as I prefer a very snug fit.

Excellent Helmet
I bought this a couple months ago to replace an older scorpion helmet and I must say after wearing a great helmet like this I would never by a cheap helmet again. the design is great and fit my head really well. I have enough room to wear a lite Klim Balaclava under it for the cold days. Then build quality is great, but I would expect this from a high end Shoei helmet as well.

Best Adventure Helmet
After trying on helmets from Arai, Klim, Schuberth and other high companies, the Shoei felt like it was custom made for my head. Shoei also hand makes their helmets in Japan so you can't beat the quality.
