I used it unconventionally and it works very well
It’s solid and wide and just what I was looking for to increase the flat area and carrying stability of my ‘16 VStrom 650’s rear rack - which I prefer over using a top case, which I had sold. After purchasing this rack extension I realized there is $200 adapter to buy for it first… So instead I reversed the rack and friction fitted the narrower end between my hard cases’ frame (a flat bar portion that passes over the bike’s rack) and the rubber pad of the bike’s rack area. Three heavy-duty releasable zip ties to hold it tightly in place. Works perfectly for what I needed, without the additional $200 adaptor plate (your bike/model may vary in results).

Is this the plate that mounts on the rack, or is it the rack itself?
It’s the plate that mounts to rack with 3 quick turn fasteners. Makes the rack much larger.
