              Description

Perhaps the most fabled name in the entire Arai lineup, the Corsair has long been renowned as one of the most advanced, highest quality helmets available anywhere in the world. It represents the culmination of Arai's vast experience in helmet design and unwavering focus on rider protection. And with features like the ingenious VAS shield mechanism, dramatically improved airflow and ventilation, and an odor resistant liner, the Corsair-X has certainly earned its place as Arai's flagship model.

              VAS Shield Mechanism

The SAI shield on the Corsair-V has only a single axis pivot point but the Corsair-X has the new VAS mechanism with a variable axis incorporating a moving pivot point. By combining the pin trajectory, which is based on an imaginary axis, with the two trajectories of the double pivot point slot, the shield opens and closes smoothly even with the much lower shield mount position.

A dual-function lever releases both the side cover / pod and shield pin for quick and simple shield removal. Being able to see the shield mechanism allows for easier shield changes.

              Improved Shield Latch

The VAS latch captures and securely holds the shield closed to help prevent unexpected opening. In addition to the de-mist function, the larger latch allows for intuitive and seamless shield operation.

              Improved Glance Off Ability

The VAS pivot cover is now smaller and lower than the previous design, yielding an average of 24 mm more area above the cover. The shell is now smoother along the Snell test line in the temple area, thus increasing the helmet's ability to glance off objects during an impact.

Compared with the shell of the Corsair-V, the smooth area around the temple is increased by an average of 24 mm on the new VAS model. Having a rounder, smoother, stronger shell to improve glance off ability.

              PB-SNC² Shell.

Created from super fiber and special synthetic fibers, and assembled by Arai experts, the shell provides both superb tensile strength and flexibility characteristics. Like the metal bands used to hold a wooden barrel together, a variety of carefully placed materials, combined with newly developed resins result in strong shells with less weight.

              Diffuser Type 12

New Type 12 diffusers are 20 mm longer and take in 19% more air than the previous design. In addition, the new air intake vents have three positions and are designed to help provide improved sealing which decreases road noise and water intrusion.

              Odor Resistant Liner

The fully removable interior comfort liner has been improved and updated with odor resistant material, which helps maintain a neutral pH level close to the skin. In addition, the new, soft frame material is more comfortable and features removable temple padding and a brand new removable/replaceable crown pad to allow for a customized fit.

              VAS MAX-V (BV) Shield

VAS Max Vision shield is standard to provide better visibility in all seasons and for all types of riding. A clear Pinlock insert is standard with the Corsair-X.

              IC Duct-5

The new IC Duct-5 provides 11% more air flow than the previous Delta Duct 5. The new, bigger switch features three positions, is easier to open, and limits water intrusion when fully closed.

              Chin Curtain

The new chin curtain accentuates the egg-shaped form of the outer shell. In addition, it blocks the intrusion of turbulent air from the underside of the helmet and increases negative pressure to enhance the function of the chin vent by drawing more air from the mouth area.

              Interior Shape:

Intermediate Oval (IO) - This shape is designed for the rider whose head has a front-to-back dimension that is longer than the side-to-side dimension. This is a neutral head-shape design which tends to fit most riders well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First two months of wear First, Canada's Motorcycle did a great job of selling and shipping this helmet. I've never actually had a helmet not worn before and that arrived in my hands only 4 months after its manufacture! The helmet - I've had approx. 6 Arai helmets in the past. They fit me better than other brands. I ride a little over 20 000 km annually, both work and pleasure, so my helmet is critical in protection and comfort. I chose this model as my exp. with previous Corsairs was very good, and I wanted to continue to be able to wash the liner and replace different parts as necessary, and other models/brands don't always allow this. Take care of your shell/styro-liner, and the rest can be renewed. My experience: (remembering that this is quite new, so the padding etc. is at its thickest) It feels a bit lighter than the prev. Corsair V helmets = great. (And this is an XL size!) The helmet fits notably more tightly in passing over your head, then feels true to size once settled. The width of vision is slightly, though notably wider = excellent. The "comfort" is the same as my previous Corsairs = the fit to various parts of my head, pressure, warmth and ventilation (I ride year-round) and noise levels (~ unchanged to slt. quieter from previous Corsair V models). I would appreciate more available ventilation from the wide variety of controllable vents etc. - I think that a vent opened wide should feel appropriate only in very hot weather and so partial closures would also be used. Currently, I keep pretty well all of the vents wide open all the time, so more airflow volume would be valuable. I like the appearance and the manufacture, materials and finish is excellent (plain white). I love the rear wing, though I'm not sure it does much at different settings and riding positions. So my only carp is regarding the new chin cover or curtain, that sits over the chin air spoiler. It is a light weight, woven synthetic, slightly air-penetrable fabric that crosses the front 2-3" of the helmet's head opening, not touching but extending back about 2 - 3" of your chin/ upper neck. Arai explains its value in the website etc., and of course you can remove it. I find that in cooler temps. where breath condensation is possible (> 90% of Canadian riding), the curtain significantly inhibits breathing down and away from the visor and more significantly, your glasses, if you are unfortunate enough to wear them. I may wind up removing the curtain, but commentors in other sites have noted that this can make the cheek pads sit slightly farther away from your face, necessitating the purchase of thicker pads to refit correctly, which would be annoying. The rubber rand around the bottom of the helmet is now continuous which is much better - no ends to come adrift after years of use and flap in the wind! Seems also a bit thicker. All of the fabric covers inside can be removed and washed - very big deal. Removing the visor is always a bit of an Arai-diddle, but the new method is, actually, easier than the Corsair V, and encourages you to clean/lube the hinge etc., which is good for high use people like me. The Pinlock adapted visor works well and I've had great experience with their visor-liners before - very glad to see the Pinlock come as stock. Yes, this is an expensive helmet - no I won't engage in the infinite arguments from those who don't buy Arai! I recognise that there are other good manufacturers out there - but Arai fits me better than the others. I don't feel superior with an Arai on my head, just comfortable and happy! For some scientifically valid info on the performance of many helmets by actual impact tests in a gov. lab, see the SHARP helmet testing website at http://www.sharp.direct.gov.uk - the Corsair X doesn't yet appear to be there yet, though international naming is confusing. This website is awesome for real-world, basic impact assessment, but doesn't yet cover how the shell etc. protect from glancing blows, and actual penetrative and destructive effects - where the shell design and material really matters. So, this is a wonderful lid!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Arai Corsair-X with amazing IOM TT design The quality and feel of this helmet is outstanding, just as I expect it from an Arai. The latest Corsair-X is definitely a premium product. I use Arai helmets since many years and won’t ride with any other helmet. With my last Arai I had an accident on track, striking a wall with 170 kph. The helmet is garbage after that of course, but I didn’t even have a concussion. That made my decision, buying the top model from Arai easy. Great that we have with FortNine a dealership in Canada with a wide range of Arai helmets with fast delivery and no extra costs for US shipments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best helmet out there. Arai never disappoints. This helmet was a replacement for the Arai that got destroyed when I was t-boned just before Easter. The fit and finish of this helmet is superior to any helmets out there. I love the colours and it’s really comfortable. It’s easy to see why most of the riders at the Isle of Mann TT wear Arai.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing helmet I just bought this helmet a few weeks ago. I've o ly used it once due to weather. Quiet and very comfortable. Happy it came with the pin lock visor. My only complaint is that at this price rand that it did not come with the pro shade system. I've seen it on cheaper models. Just did that at 1000$ it wouldn't have all the bells and whistles. Other then that helmet is fantastic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Arai Corsair X My first Arai product. My only criticism is when the visor is partially open, the visor does vibrate which is more of an annoyance than anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Typical Arai fit and finish I had met an Arai rep at the Vancouver Bike show and he suggested a large. My previous Arai was an XL. I had to order a thinner liner and trim the cheek pads. The fit is snug but comfortable once you adust the liner. Virtually no movement on my head. I would definately suggest test fitting the helmet because Arai has three head shapes. The Corsair - X is an intermediate oval. The vents work amazingly well at funneling air through the helmet. The visor release is a bit awkward with heavier wet/winter gloves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helmet, helmet, helmet! What a helmet. It fits my head, looks great, and only cost another $150 to get a tinted visor, sweet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Arai Corsair X - nothing better!! This is my 6th RX7 / Corsair over the years and the X is an evolution of the V. I love it and I highly recommend Arai….it’s expensive but I believe you get what you pay for. If you haven’t tried an Arai you owe it to yourself to go to a shop and try one on.
