Arai Helmets Comparison Chart _1Arai Helmets Comparison Chart _2

Perhaps the most fabled name in the entire Arai lineup, the Corsair has long been renowned as one of the most advanced, highest quality helmets available anywhere in the world. It represents the culmination of our vast experience in helmet design and unwavering focus on rider protection. And with features like the ingenious VAS shield mechanism, dramatically improved air flow and ventilation and an antimicrobial Eco-Pure liner, the Corsair-X has certainly earned its place as our flagship model.

                  VAS Shield System:

Normally the shield mounting position must remain relatively high, because a lower shield pivot will not allow the shield to open or close. The VAS (Variable Axis System) has a variable axis (moving pivot point). This allows shield opening and closing even with the 24mm lower shield mount position, compared to the Corsair V.

                  VAS Shield Latch System:

VAS shield latch system captures and holds the shield closed more securely to help prevent unexpected opening. In addition to a de-mist position, the larger latch design allows for an intuitive and seamless operation of the shield.

                  PB SNC2 Shell:

The Corsair X helmet shell is constructed from Super Fiber and other special synthetic fibers developed for F-1 helmet visor panels, assembled and bonded by Arai experts. A specially-developed resin creates stronger bonds between shell materials with less weight.

                  Diffuser Type 12:

The Corsair X Type 12 air diffusers are longer than the Corsair V and are straightened for improved aerodynamics, working together with the AirWing to improve stability, and creating a 19% gain in efficiency. The air intake vents are extremely adjustable and have three positions (closed, half open and fully open) and create a tight seal to decrease wind noise and water intrusion.

                  Eco Pure Liner:

The fully removable interior liner system is made from Eco Pure material, which helps maintain neutral acidity levels close to human skin and antibacterial consumption, as well as a softer liner material and adjustable temple padding to allow for a customized fit.

                  VAS V MV Shield:

The VAS MAX Vision shield is standard to provide better visibility in all seasons and for all types of riding and comes standard with a clear anti-fog Pinlock insert.

                  Interior Shape:

Intermediate Oval - This shape is designed for the rider whose head has a front-to-back dimension that is longer than the side-to-side dimension. This is a neutral head-shape design which tends to fit most riders well.

                  Additional Features:

                  • VAS (Variable Axis System) shield and side pods are exclusive to the Arai Corsair-X Helmet
                  • Dual function lever releases both the side pod and the face shield for quick and simple face shield removal
                  • VAS shield latch system captures and holds the face shield closed and provides a de-mist position to slightly crack the shield open
                  • VAS MAX Vision face shield provides excellent visibility in all seasons thanks to the included Pinlock insert
                  • Neckroll is removable and has additional exhaust channels to remove interior heat
                  • Cheek pads have the Emergency Release Tab feature
                  • IC Duct5 forehead vent provides 11% more airflow than the Corsair V, features 3 positions and is overall large and easy to operate with gloves
                  • PB SNC2 Shell has superb tensile strength due to a variety of carefully-positioned materials and light weight resin
                  • Arai's R75 shell shape creates a rounder, smoother helmet to enhance energy and impact dispersion
                  • Includes clear Pinlock insert
                  • Snell 2020 and DOT approved

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First two months of wear First, Canada's Motorcycle did a great job of selling and shipping this helmet. I've never actually had a helmet not worn before and that arrived in my hands only 4 months after its manufacture! The helmet - I've had approx. 6 Arai helmets in the past. They fit me better than other brands. I ride a little over 20 000 km annually, both work and pleasure, so my helmet is critical in protection and comfort. I chose this model as my exp. with previous Corsairs was very good, and I wanted to continue to be able to wash the liner and replace different parts as necessary, and other models/brands don't always allow this. Take care of your shell/styro-liner, and the rest can be renewed. My experience: (remembering that this is quite new, so the padding etc. is at its thickest) It feels a bit lighter than the prev. Corsair V helmets = great. (And this is an XL size!) The helmet fits notably more tightly in passing over your head, then feels true to size once settled. The width of vision is slightly, though notably wider = excellent. The "comfort" is the same as my previous Corsairs = the fit to various parts of my head, pressure, warmth and ventilation (I ride year-round) and noise levels (~ unchanged to slt. quieter from previous Corsair V models). I would appreciate more available ventilation from the wide variety of controllable vents etc. - I think that a vent opened wide should feel appropriate only in very hot weather and so partial closures would also be used. Currently, I keep pretty well all of the vents wide open all the time, so more airflow volume would be valuable. I like the appearance and the manufacture, materials and finish is excellent (plain white). I love the rear wing, though I'm not sure it does much at different settings and riding positions. So my only carp is regarding the new chin cover or curtain, that sits over the chin air spoiler. It is a light weight, woven synthetic, slightly air-penetrable fabric that crosses the front 2-3" of the helmet's head opening, not touching but extending back about 2 - 3" of your chin/ upper neck. Arai explains its value in the website etc., and of course you can remove it. I find that in cooler temps. where breath condensation is possible (> 90% of Canadian riding), the curtain significantly inhibits breathing down and away from the visor and more significantly, your glasses, if you are unfortunate enough to wear them. I may wind up removing the curtain, but commentors in other sites have noted that this can make the cheek pads sit slightly farther away from your face, necessitating the purchase of thicker pads to refit correctly, which would be annoying. The rubber rand around the bottom of the helmet is now continuous which is much better - no ends to come adrift after years of use and flap in the wind! Seems also a bit thicker. All of the fabric covers inside can be removed and washed - very big deal. Removing the visor is always a bit of an Arai-diddle, but the new method is, actually, easier than the Corsair V, and encourages you to clean/lube the hinge etc., which is good for high use people like me. The Pinlock adapted visor works well and I've had great experience with their visor-liners before - very glad to see the Pinlock come as stock. Yes, this is an expensive helmet - no I won't engage in the infinite arguments from those who don't buy Arai! I recognise that there are other good manufacturers out there - but Arai fits me better than the others. I don't feel superior with an Arai on my head, just comfortable and happy! For some scientifically valid info on the performance of many helmets by actual impact tests in a gov. lab, see the SHARP helmet testing website at http://www.sharp.direct.gov.uk - the Corsair X doesn't yet appear to be there yet, though international naming is confusing. This website is awesome for real-world, basic impact assessment, but doesn't yet cover how the shell etc. protect from glancing blows, and actual penetrative and destructive effects - where the shell design and material really matters. So, this is a wonderful lid!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing But Arai For Me... Ever! This is my third Arai helmet, replacing my Arai Corsair V. I've crashed in both of my previous ones. In my first crash, I had a get off that I hit my head so hard on the concrete, that I literally bounced all the way back on my feet! My side pod was smashed, and my visor was flapping from the other side. Nevrmind that my Arai saved my life, but I walked away without even a headache! I looked at the damaged shell and I could see that that the fractures spread a hundred different ways, so you can imagine how much shock was absorbed by the shell. From that moment on, I will never get on a motorcycle with another helmet again. My second get off, was on my Corsair V and it was a slider. My visoro took most of the damage, but when I took the helmet apart, I couldn't see even a little bit of structural damage, so I kept riding with it for another 10 years lol. Now, to the review of this new Corsair X. I loved my V in every way, so this helmet lives up to all those standards and more. I love the new visor changing system, and it really is so much quieter! I wasn't buying the hype before I got this, because I've always lived with the loudness from my old Arai's and it's never really bothered me. Keep in mind, I've only owned an HJC before and that was about 15 years ago, so I don't know what other brands are like for loudness. Being honest, my V felt more plushy and comfortable, but this one feels more sturdy. The one issue I have with the X, is that I found it fogged up much more than my V did. I decided to change the nose guard from my Corsair V, and problem solved! The old nosed guard is more pointy, and jusyt a smidgen higher, but it made all the difference in the world when it came to fogging up. In conclusion, it doesn't have to be the Corsair, but if you value your head, then go withi! Nevermind it saving my life multiple times, but the fact that I didn't have a concussion makes it worth the extra money. Also, because of the high cost, you do get extrastreet cred for having one (lol).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent helmet! Super happy with this helmet. The obvious reason one buys an Arai is for the fit so make sure you try all the different shapes (the Corsair is intermediate oval). I spent the money because it fit the best (and has an awesome reputation should you need it). Airflow is good. Sound is moderate/loud. Weight is super light. Visor change and open mechanism is solid. Visor comes pinlock equipped with an insert. Graphic and finish are awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing helmet I just bought this helmet a few weeks ago. I've o ly used it once due to weather. Quiet and very comfortable. Happy it came with the pin lock visor. My only complaint is that at this price rand that it did not come with the pro shade system. I've seen it on cheaper models. Just did that at 1000$ it wouldn't have all the bells and whistles. Other then that helmet is fantastic.
