Avoid at all costs
Pain to install snd align the rubber washers, impossible if you gave large man hands. Need to re/re every oil change. Brackets are weak and bend on normal impact. I noticed when I changed my oil that the brackets bent and plate rubbed against my exhaust. Now I have to open the case bolt again to remove brackets. Likely not a good idea to be removing case bolt constantly. Need a large vice to resend the brackets or large hammer. More times uou bend the brackets, more weak they become. Very poorly designed and executed

Givi surprise
Skid plate works on my 2019 vstrom. I little disappointed at Givi for the apparent lack of forethought regards to access the oil filter and especially the oil drain hole. I will cut away a small section of the bottom to access the drain with a socket. But filter changes will require a removal of the shield ( not the mounting brackets). Also, I had to superglue the rubber washers on the inside of the shield to brackets holes as they are impossible to put in place after even one bolt is mounted to the brackets.

Good quality / Not well design
The product looks solid and great quality. However, once it is installed, you will struggle when oil change (no hole for the drain plug), specially the filter (No room for tool). You`ll find yourself dismounting the whole skid plate. Inconvenient if you`re doing the change in the middle of a long trip/nowhere.

Good quality, poor ingenuity
This overall does protect the bike nicely and keeps those goodies safe. However it is very difficult to ensure it is installed correctly as the brackets are in a very small pinch point and have detached washers that like to fall off. I mention this as it will be an absolute nightmare next oil change time. But functions nicely overall.

Looks nice, but it offers no protection
Not many options for skid plates on the 2017+ DL650, and this one looks the nicest, aesthetically. But it's made of very thin aluminum. And the mounting design is poor. Not that I was expecting it to be extremely robust, but I expected the metal to be thicker than my credit card. Fine, I guess for running on gravel roads. Not impressed. Could have been so much better with heavier guage metal.

skid plate with a super easy install
The DL650 has a great oil filter set up.. out in the front of the engine. I looked at this and saw an easy way to kill an engine. The skid plate protector fixed this and took a whole 20 minutes to install. My only beef about it is the steel bolts supplied. I upgraded these to Stainless Steel and coated the bolts with Lanocoat.
All my add-ons have been from Givi, Crash bars, wind screen, skid plate. Everything has fit without any issues.

nice looking
wished it had better access to middle bar that way you could put it together then put it on--oil changes would be easier

Questions
Will this fit a 2009 VStrom 650 with Givi engine guard?
will this skid plate work with "Givi Engine Guard DL650 V-Strom - TN532" - which is the proper engine guard for a 2005 vstrom?
Yes it will work. They are independent of each other and are not attached together. My big problem with the crash bars (engine guard) is the buzz I get at 5000 rpm because the rubber O rings at the centre joint don't do enough to isolate the two bars.
