Solid rack; tough installation.
I'm reviewing the total kit for mounting my Givi Monolock cases onto my 2017 Honda CB500x: the top rack, the side racks, and the tail-light adjuster.
The installation wasn't as straightforward as I expected. The top rack went on easily, and the left side rack. But it was a struggle to install the right side rack. Getting the exhaust mount, passenger pegs and rack into alignment wasn't easy and took quite a while. The side-rack kit came with a deflector for the exhaust...but it seems to be aimed at an older model of this bike. Instructions and sizing aren't appropriate for my 2017 model. I need to contact Givi and get some clarification.
The tail-light kit was a bit tricky too. The kit should really come with an extension for the wiring, so that there's a bit more wiggle room. I have the sense that the kit stretched out the tail lights as far as they would go given the available wiring, rather than as far as they should actually go for visibility. The tail-light kit is definitely the least robust component of the luggage system. In the end, it worked out. But I'm seriously thinking about mounting an additional brake light, to ensure visibility.
I have been considering a Givi engine guard, but given the fit problems I encountered here, I'll research carefully before I buy.
Installation problems aside, the end result is good. The racks are solid and the luggage fits on securely! I have no concerns.
Value for the money? I suppose, but it sure adds up! 2 rack systems, a top plate and tail-light adjuster, on top of the luggage itself.
