Fits 1997 as well as the listed model years
I was after a Multibar to fit my 1997 Honda Shadow VT1100C Spirit and was having difficulties finding one for models under 2008. Lindby do not have any bars on their website for model years prior to 2008, though I found a reference to this exact multibar on an American competitors site which did confirm fitment 1997-2008. Apparently the Fram design and radiator etc did not change within that period. I contacted Fortnine after finding the exact same Part Number listed on their site (but for 2009+), though through our discussions nothing could be confirmed about fitment due to the manufacturer not being super accurate with more contemporary stock fitting older models. I took the plunge, trusting my eyes and intuition and also heeding the return policy offered by Fortnine. Upon receipt, I opened the package but kept the protective foam on the unit while I positioned it on my bike. Everything seemed to lineup so I commenced unbolting the 3 required bolts and attempting to fit this Multibar. It installed without so much of a hint of issue. Everything lined up perfectly, the provided new hardware was turnkey with the current boltholes and upon tightening to the manufacturers torque the thing seems as solid as the manufacturer intended.
As for the bar itself, it seems to be of very high quality. I do wish they were able to design something that bolted to the top post with more than a #10 bolt into the frame above the rad, and that the metal tubing was the entire way through the bar, but I guess that's the design. The flat part at the top which bolts to the frame looks like a weaker point, along with the two bolts attached below the footpads. But you know what you're buying, based on available photos and descriptions. Plus the manufacture specifies that these bars are just footrests and for aesthetic purposes, not intended to be an engine guard, hold the bike up if dropped or protect the rider in an accident. Such as it is, the unit seems sturdy, keeps my long legs comfy on the highway and looks absolutely killer! It is overpriced for what it is though, admittedly. Still, better than other options out there.
To finish up - if you have an older Spirit 1997+ and are not confident that this will fit your bike, take note that this unit fit on mine 100% with zero modifications and I'm absolutely stoked that I risked it. Obviously ensure you've done the research with other competitors and the manufacturer if you have years outside 1997-2008. Aside from that - and bearing in mind Fortnines return policy just to be sure - order with confidence and DO IT. You won't be disappointed.
