Excellent exhaust system
I installed the Bassani Road Rage 2 into 1 exhaust on my 2015 Gunner a few days ago.
Here’s my input/review so far:
PROS:
Bike runs better than ever.
Clearance on the right rear of the bike; I got an extra 3-4 inches of clearance. No more dragging pipes.
Dropped a good 30-40 pounds off the bike’s weight. Those stock mufflers are ridiculously heavy.
O2 sensors removed, the bike is running much richer than before. You can feel it and smell it; the bike runs cooler and the exhaust smells like it should. I will not be tuning the bike because of how it’s running and because of how rich things are. VERY happy with how this turned out. (Please note I also have an K&N air filter installed, so, air supply is not an issue).
Volume; My personal preference is hearing the exhaust on a bike as opposed to the engine noise and belt noise. So now the exhaust drowns out everything. I cannot get the belt to stop whining (too loose and it slaps, tighten enough to stop slapping and it whines) but now I can’t hear it whining.
CONS:
Volume; The exhaust is louder than I anticipated and than I wanted. Not TOO loud, but, I feel as though it’s going to disturb my rural neighbours.
INSTALLATION:
Took about 4.5 hours to install. Not a tough install, just took time to get it right and to line everything up ensuring there was clearance everywhere. Removing the stock mufflers was the toughest part and that just took some time and elbow grease. Once off, everything unbolted with ease.
The Bassani instructions were garbage. I read them through many times before starting the installation and there were many details missed/omitted/unclear. Eventually I just stopped using them and did it on my own. So, the installation isn’t tough, just takes time.
FIT AND FINISH:
Pipes fit perfectly and are actually better fitted than stock. More clearance everywhere than before (IE near oil cooler, right peg, etc). Welds and finish are quality, packaging and packing was fantastic too.
SOUND:
As mentioned, LOUD. When accelerating and under load it sounds GREAT, but it’s loud. Good thing I wear a full face, it’s far less apparent that way. I am proud of the tone, exactly what I wanted my bike to sound like. Idle sounds aggressive and louder, just perfect.
The bike still pops when decelerating but I am learning to curb how I decelerate to avoid it. “Blipping” before releasing the clutch seems to avoid the worst of the popping.
HOW THE BIKE RUNS:
Bike performance is much smoother. Running at low speeds at low RPM is less “chunky” and jerky. No noticeable loss or gain in power. The smoothness speaks for itself. Bike runs much cooler as well.
