          Description

Shoei once again has found the right recipe to bring a spectacular helmet at a fair price on the market. The RF-1400 offers more than what most riders seek in a helmet and this latest offering of the flagship presents a wonderful melting pot of a timeless design, aerodynamic performance, ventilation, quietness, ease of use, comfortability and the utmost quality in build, materials and manufacturing that only a Shoei can provide.

Superb quality, stylishly sleek design and utmost comfort and safety are blended together at the company that's as candid of its trustworthiness as the logo emblazoned on its forehead: Shoei is proud to deliver its latest iteration of the iconic flagship RF lineup, the RF-1400. The RF has been a staple bucket in the moto community since its first introduction in 1984, and years of R&D have led the evolution in safety, design, comfort, noise reduction and just all-around good quality that only Shoei is prepared to provide.

          Design Concept

The wind tunnel tests have refined the RF's aerodynamics and ventilation to help evolve the design forward. Shoei managed to wring out the RF1200's aerodynamics with a 4% reduction in drag and 6% reduction in lift. The compact, aerodynamic shell shape is made to maximize ventilation as air flows over you while doubling as the lightest SNELL approved full-face helmet in Shoei's new offerings. No rider wants to forfeit important characteristics that most lighter helmets compromise on, such as wind noise. But the RF-1400, while being the lightest in the lineup, leaves no room for earache with its new noise reduction technology.

          Quietness

The shape of the spoilered shell was designed in a wind tunnel and through that testing, Shoei was able to provide a quieter shell design while also tweaking the shape of the all-new CWR-F2 shield system using their Vortex Generator technology to displace wind turbulence. An all-new, airtight window beading system provides a windproof and waterproof seal so tight, you'd think it was your turn to take a crack at opening the pickle jar. The RF-1400 also sports some more voluminous cheek pads and removable ear pads to help soften the "blow" of wind noise.

          Shield System

The 3D injection moulded CWR-F2 shield manages a distortion-free field of vision while protecting your eyes from 99% of the sun's harmful UV rays and the 2D "outside" surface combined with the 3D technology provides an aggressive look without compromising visibility. Pair it with the included, 10% wider Pinlock EVO to eliminate fog while also dismissing any woes for lateral visibility.

          Interior

The RF-1400 is equipped with a fully removable, washable, replaceable and adjustable interior made from Max-Dry materials to absorb and dissipate sweat two times quicker than traditional nylon. The cheek pad fabric is soft and durable to provide comfort and a plush fit and the voluminous pad material is multi-layered for improved stabilization and keeps decibels down in the helmet. Customize your fit with the optional interior components offered in different sizes.

          Ventilation Performance

Pardon us for being a bit long-winded here, but we want you to know just how great this helmet is. Let's direct that wind a bit more. The ventilation system has 3 channels to manipulate 6 entryways of air for your comfort: 2 in the center, 2 in the chin bin and 1 on each side of the temples. The relocated center/forehead vent offers an additional air vent hole compared to its predecessor, while the side vents are larger for greater air intake as well. The large, no-fuss 3-position lower vent shutter is easy to use with gloves on while riding and the RF-1400 has a redesigned enlarged exhaust vent with 4 outlets to push the hot air out while getting in all that sweet, cool air.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another Level I did some research and narrowed my choices down to the Shoei, the AGV K6 and HJC RPHA 70. Decided on the RF1400 because of fit, reputation of Shoei quality, and construction and finish. Also liked the idea that it was an evolution of an already highly rated lid, the RF1200. Very impressed with how nicely everything is put together as well as the look of the solid white. My biggest goal was a quiet helmet and this helmet more than meets expectations. I always wear ear plugs as I am bothered by wind noise. With this helmet wind noise has been virtually eliminated and there is almost zero buffeting. It is obvious Shoei had done their homework. I wear a large which fits perfectly when on and is very comfortable. One beef is that when taking it on and off the side bolsters pretty much tear my ears off. I'm expecting that will become less of an issue as the helmet gets broken in. And because the helmet fits snug on the sides I sometimes need to wobble it to get my ears unfolded. These are minor complaints for anotherwise awesome helmet and in reality I prefer to have a snug fitting lid. Glad I paid more than I had planned on....definately worth every penny.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great helmet with some changes I love this helmet but compared to my previous RF1100s I miss the left side locking mechanism. The front centre one doesn’t work as well and is hard to locate. You can leave it partly open like before unless you open it a bit. It’s not as good. It has better wind noise and aerodynamics though and I like not having vents to open on the back. The front vent is easy to open too while riding. The Pin lock anti fog screen works awesome too. If it wasn’t for the front lock button, I’d give it 5 stars

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is what you can expect of a Shoi full face I found that this helmet is quite snug compared to others of the medium size. But my head size is at the upper limit of this helmet's medium size. So putting the helmet on, and especially taking it off, is surprisingly more arduous than what I am used to. Especially with the chin curtain on. However, once wearing it, it is very, very comfortable. Surprisingly so. The neck padding is considerable and snug. What strikes me most is how quiet it is compared to my other helmets, including the Shoei RF-1200 that it replaces. I also prefer its new central visor latch. However, releasing it does require precise pressure application, which requires getting used to (with a gloved finger). The ease of operation of the top vents is pretty standard, maybe a little easier than some. The visor mechanism has an adjusting system to insure a proper fit between the visor and the seal (not tried). Shoei claims to have improved the visor removal and installation. I found it to be pretty consistent with the RF-1200 and not particularly intuitive. I would says that this helmet is what you can expect if you previously own a Shoei full face helmet. Just more quiet. All in all, I am very satisfied with this helmet, more than any other I've owned. It is removing it that I dread! But maybe I should have gone one size larger. Yet, wearing it, the size feels perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light & quiet helmet I had my first ride with this helmet and noticed the difference right away compared to my old $125 helmet. I wanted something with a small shell size since I wear an XS. It's light, and the wind noise is reduced a lot! I'll have to get used to the visor release being right in the middle...that was a change to this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Bucket! I really love the RF 1400 as it fits my head shape (oval) perfectly. It is quieter than my Qwest and the pin lock is vastly improved over the first iteration. No more pins in the periphery which suits me fine. It is a little more snug than the Qwest in the cheek area, but not uncomfortable or causing pressure points on longer rides. Reviews are correct about ripping ears off when taking the helmet off. However, if I take it off sideways, meaning left ear first pushing one side up and toward my right shoulder, no issues at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overall happiness! After having tried so many different helmets, icon, HJC, Sheoi RF SR, for my type of writing which is Sport, the shoei RF 1400 is a bliss. I hear the wind but it doesn't prevent me from hearing the outside. When I ride at relatively high speeds on the highway, with the wind hitting me from all sides, the inside of my helmet is still quiet. Don't misunderstand, when I say quiet it's not like you're in a locked room or a sound proof booth, not going to happen on a motorcycle but the noise level is surprisingly low. As for the other attributes of airflow it's still cold so I'm not quite sure how the air flow is going to work, but that could be an update for a later time. As for the fit it is a bit snug you do have to spread the straps open to get your head through and my my cheeks do squish a bit, all things that are normal on a new helmet but once I'm in there it's a very comfortable even though my cheek are a bit squished. If you have a cardo slim, beware, it is difficult to to insert under the frame but faisable. I did not have the RF 1200 to compare it to. All in all, a joy to ride with this new helmet. Only thing missing is the faceshields that are not in stock in alot of places. Still waiting for the photochromic lense.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I picked this up on sale recently because I always wanted a Shoei due to reputation. Nice looking, comfortable fit, nice interior (removable & washable), good air venting. Comes with a pinlock, visor has several stop positions including just open a crack, has DD strap. There are speaker pockets and room for glasses if you need to wear them. I noticed that the 'Prologue' model is no longer present on the Shoei website so this graphic design must be discontinued. Maybe it's the shape of my wig but I always have to buy 2 sizes up from my measured size with respect to the sizing chart. Compared to my AGV K6, this Shoei RF-1400 Prologue would be my second pick. The RF-1400 is much quicker to fog up when closed and is noisier at highway speed. The top left & right vents make noise when opened, quiet when closed. The upper center vent is quiet open or closed. The vent air flow is pretty good, I'd say better than the AGV K6. The AGV visor is much thicker than the Shoei visor. I think it (the AGV visor) offers better protection. Also the AGV Iridium Gold visor is darker than the Shoei Iridium Blue. I found the AGV super tight on my head when new (even at 2 sizes up) and it took 3 weeks to break it in to the point where I felt okay and didn't get headaches from it. The Shoei was comfortable immediately. Maybe it fits my bulbous melon better due to it being more suited to a oblong bluntskull like mine (larger front to back than wide). My K6 crushed against my forehead and always left a dent/line across my forehead. The RF-1400 doesn't press on my forehead like the K6 does so it feels a lot better. I also bought the Shoei Iridium Blue visor and I like it a lot. It's like blue chrome in appearance which I really like. Nobody can see my face and it looks super cool. It blocks a lot of light, so it's great on sunny days and is a life saver when riding into the low setting or rising sun. Obviously not suitable for night riding so stick with the clear visor for that. Like I said already, the AGV gold visor blocked the sun a bit more. The AGV visor has a metal loop on the lower center edge to lock it. The Shoei has a tiny plastic tab (obviously not nearly as strong). I found changing the visors on AGV K6 super easy but the Shoei RF-1400 visor is pretty awkward to change. I had to watch YT videos to figure it out and even then I felt like it was going to break off a small plastic nib or tab or crack or something. I've changed between the blue and clear visors a few times now and it has been fine but the pulling and clicking remains disconcerting. I changed the visor on the AGV K6 50+ times over the past two years and never once had trouble or worries about breaking it. I like the Shoei RF-1400 a lot but if I had to choose between it and the AGV K6, I'd go with the K6. At normal price the RF-1400 is very expensive but no worse than Arai or AGV or some others. I knocked off one star only because I think that the AGV K6 is a better product for about the same money. I'd love to try an Arai too but they are also quite expensive. I recently purchased a helmet for my wife, also from Fortnine, the LS2 Rapid Rad for well under $200 CAD along with two iridium visors each $100 cheaper than the Shoei and AGV visors. It is a really nice and full-featured helmet, with very nice graphics and interior as well, and she really likes it. After seeing how good the LS2 Rapid helmet is at that low price, it's suddenly very difficult to justify the exorbitant prices of the Shoei and AGV products. Is it the name we're paying for? I assume that the LS2 is a simple solid plastic shell but the Shoei and AGV have a more complex construction. I copied this from the Shoei website: Fiber-Reinforced Matrix: An outer shell that is made primarily of fiberglass (FRP) is given its shape by a heat-setting plastic resin. 2. The Compound Structure: The AIM and AIM+ shells consist of various layers of reinforcing organic fibers and glass fibers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love me a Shoei I bought this as an upgrade from an older model Shoei and they're still my helmet brand of choice. You get what you pay for. The noise reduction is noticeable and the helmet is super comfy, light, and has great vision. Not sure why they added the lock feature at the front. I never had an issue with previous helmets. Dealing with a new lock mechanism while riding is not ideal, but shouldn't be a deterrent. The helmet is excellent with great working features. The shinny black helmet looks matt black in the image but isn't. It is shinny, but sleek.
